Frederick Brendon Williams passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at the age of 85.

He was born to Arthur and Annie Williams on October 23, 1932 in Washington DC.  He survived polio at age 13 then went on to serve in the army from 1951 to 1954 as a Staff Sergeant in Korea, earning four bronze stars by the age of 19.

He spent time as a teacher and principal; created the Frederick Williams Reading System in 1989, which helped people improve their memory and reading skills; then went on to work as a clinical

Joe Ben Apodaca, born June 8th 1923 in Santa Fe, NM passed away peacefully surrounded by family on February 10th, 2018. 

Joe was known to his friends as “Hosa” (The Bear). Joe grew up in Santa Fe and was the oldest of 12 kids born to Celestino and Guadalupita Apodaca. He began working at age 6 selling newspapers on the street corner in front of his Uncle Frank’s convenience store. He was an amazing athlete, and during his high school years he starred in Baseball, Football, and Track for both St. Michaels and Santa Fe High.

On February 6th, 2018, Cornett Philip Wood died peacefully at home after many years of battling leukemia. His wife dutifully took care of him until he died, surrounded by family and friends. 

Phil is survived by his wife, Debby Wood; their daughter, Jessie Ross, their son, Austin Wood and Phil’s brother, Greg Wood. He is also survived by his son-in-law, Chris Ross and daughter-in-law, Natalie Wood. Five granddaughters called him their “Grandpa Goatie.”

Dorothy Foss was born July 28,1923 in San Francisco. Dorothy died peacefully on February 16, 2018 at 6:05pm, at the age of 94.

She is survived by her brother in San Francisco Ernst Reise and her children: Barbara Foote (Del), Bonny, Lawrence (Leslie), Deborah Pierce (Steve), Louisa Gilani, Erna, and Bertie Sorenson (Danny): her 15 grandchildren; and her 14 greatgrandchildren. Her newest great-grandchild, Georgia, followed her to heaven at 6:21pm that same day.

Dorothy was a lover of literature, music, art, and poetry.

She was a lifelong resident of Los Alamos; the daughter of Kama Michel and John Fredrick Weinbrecht.

Eden was a dedicated employee of Los Alamos National Bank for 19 years where she was promoted to Marketing Coordinator. She was responsible for planning various community events in Los Alamos including ScienceFest, ChamberFest, WinterFest Light Parade and LANB Night of the Gordon’s Summer Concert Series.

Homer Dick Lewis, 91, a resident of White Rock, passed away in his home on Saturday, February 3, 2018. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Margie Lewis, who passed in 2009.

Homer was born October 4, 1926 in Covington, Kentucky. He served in the United States Navy and then in the United States Air Force Reserve.

Homer and his family moved to Los Alamos in 1952 where he worked at LANL as a metallurgical engineer until his retirement in 1986; he then continued to consult for LANL until 1994.

Clo Loree Mingo, Ph.D. drew her last breath on January 18, 2018 at 12:28 p.m. With family and friends by her side, she was calm by the crackling fireplace in her home of over 50 years in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Born Clo Ann Sjolander February 16, 1938, in Holmen, Wisconsin, Clo brought untold skills and mettle inherent to her home on the farm, to University of Wisconsin (B.A., English), to New Mexico. After some years in Los Alamos with husband Thomas Robert Loree, she settled in El Rancho, single with three small children.

It is with great sadness that the family of Sharon K. Lanning (Molleur) announces her passing in Farmington, New Mexico, after a brief illness, on January 31, 2018 at the age of 74.

Sharon Kaye Molleur was born in Oklahoma to Dewey and Doris Molleur on November 2, 1943 and graduated from Los Alamos High School in 1961.

Sharon worked at many jobs and was particularly fond of her many years of work at Los Alamos National Laboratory and enjoyed her time there.

John Richard Lilley, Sr. died suddenly at home on January 24th, 2018. 

He was born in Fall River, MA in 1934. In 1946, he moved with his family to Southern California, eventually landing in the San Diego area, where he graduated from Point Loma High School. 

After receiving his Bachelor’s Degree in Physics from University of California, Berkeley, he moved in 1956 to Richmond, WA to work at Hanford. While there, he met and married Doris Wherry in 1957, with whom he had two children, John Jr. and Sherre.

Louie was born in Santa Fe, NM on June 21, 1961 to Presiliano and Dora Sandoval. 

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Apolinar and Pablita Sandoval; maternal grandparents, Felimon and Anita Sandoval; brothers-in-law, Art Martinez and Edgar Lopez; and great niece, Abigail Dean Lopez. 

Louie was a kind, gentle soul who was always willing to help others.

Zachary Paul Keller of Los Alamos passed away on January 25, 2018 in Albuquerque. He succumbed to injuries from a car accident near Santa Clara Pueblo the previous evening. He was 29.

Mr. Keller was born on October 2, 1988 in Boulder, CO to his parents, Russell and Sandra Keller. He moved to Los Alamos in 2003, and graduated from Los Alamos High School in 2007. He studied at NMSU in Las Cruces and UNM in Albuquerque before returning to Los Alamos.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Derek Sean Swanson on 1/24/2018 at 5:20pm after a several year battle with cancer. Derek passed away peacefully surrounded by his family in the comfort of his home in Wellington, CO.

Derek will be lovingly remembered by his spouse of many years Shylo Harris and his children, Cameron, Matthew, Julianna Swanson, Lakota Balderston-Swanson, step-sons Daniel and Elijah Harris. Patricia M. Bequette passed away January 24, 2018. Pat was born in Santa Fe, NM to John and Ida (Marie) Peckumn. They moved to Los Alamos, New Mexico in 1949 where Pat attended Central School and graduated from Los Alamos High School in 1957.

Pat remained in Los Alamos raising her family and serving the community in many ways. She truly enjoyed being with kids and was a Brownie and Girl Scout troop leader, was a member of the Los Alamos Sheriff’s Posse, and volunteered with various other organizations throughout the community.

Epifanio J. Trujillo, Sr. (Eppie) 94, Los Alamos, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2018 at home with his wife and family by his side.

Eppie was born in Cebolla, on October 27, 1923 to Pedro and Juanita (Vargas) Trujillo y Chacon. He was inquisitive, never met a stranger, and would tease anyone who crossed his path.

As he grew older, Eppie would frequently express to his family and friends he had lived a purposeful and beautiful life.

Robert C. Petrie was born on February 11th, 1928 in Pittsburgh, PA to William and Hannah Petrie.

He served in the Air Force in Korea from 1950 to 1954 and went on to work at General Electric, later moving to Los Alamos, NM to work at the Los Alamos National Laboratory.

In 1974 he married Kathleen Thorwaldsen (1920 to 2009) and leaves behind a son, Steve and a Daughter, Kathy.

Robert attended the Presbyterian Church of America in White Rock. He died peacefully in his home in White Rock on January 17th, 2018. A private burial will be held.

Sherry Lynn (Tuttle) Reninger, a longtime resident of Los Alamos, died peacefully in her sleep on January 11, 2018. She was 86 years old.

Sherry was born to Edmund and Blanche Tuttle in Cody, Wyoming on July 16, 1931. She grew up in Cody, going to school, spending time at her uncle’s ranch and working at the local soda counter with her twin sister Marian, making and serving malts and milkshakes.

After high school Sherry and Marian attended the University of Wyoming.

Dorothy Barteau “Dee” Wilson was born on May 29, 1926 in Potrerillos, Chile to Dorothy Powell and Harry C. Barteau. Her father Harry was Chief Comptroller there with Anaconda Copper. 

Dee spent her first seven years in Chile before she and her brother Sidney Brewster moved with the family to Scarsdale, NY. She graduated from Mt. Holyoke College in South Hadley, MA with a degree in Psychology, spending her junior year in Boulder, Colorado - her first taste of the west.

From 1949-1972, Dee was married to Dr. Howard Wilson.

Tom Capelli, at age 85 peacefully passed away Sunday, January 10, 2018 at his son’s home.

He leaves two children, daughter Cindy Capelli, son Steve Capelli, children's mother Jean Capelli and two grandchildren; Ryan and Nick Capelli and many close friends.

Tom was born in California in 1932 and moved to Los Alamos in 1968 with his family to work at Los Alamos National Laboratory. He worked at LANL as an engineer from 1968 until he retired and moved up to Chama, New Mexico.

Jean C. Jones passed away on January 13th due to complications from ALS. She passed in her home, with family present.

She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth Jones and survived by her two sons Glen and Robert, her three grandchildren, and her sister Susie Malone.

Jean was born in Los Angeles, California to Walter and Dorthy Langenberg. She was raised in North Hollywood where she married Kenneth Jones. She moved to Los Alamos in 1970, earned a bachelor’s degree from UNM, and ran an accounting business also in Los Alamos.

Patrick Joseph Beauparlant of Los Alamos passed away January 15, 2018. He was 19 years old.

Patrick was born October 19, 1998 on Long Island, New York. He moved to Vienna, Austria in 2004 and graduated from the Vienna International Primary School. He began his athletic career in little league and progressed to playing Rugby, which took him to tournaments all over Europe. Patrick repatriated to New York in 2012 and attended Commack High School where he played football.

June Pirtle, long time Los Alamos resident, left this earth to begin a new journey on January 14, 2018.

June and her husband, John moved to Los Alamos from East Texas in 1954. She was a grocery store checker for a short time prior to getting hired at the Los Alamos National Laboratory as a Data Administrator. She worked for the Lab until her retirement in the early 90’s.

June was a kind, soft-spoken soul who loved the Lord, her family and friends, and her church. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church for over 60 years.
