Belisama Irish Dance School invites the community to attend Rhythm of Fire 2018, this St. Patrick’s Day at 5 p.m., at the James A. Little Theater at the Santa Fe School for the Deaf in Santa Fe.

Venice Baroque Orchestra Concert Is Cancelled

Due to flight delays, the Los Alamos Concert Association cancelled tonight's performance featuring the Venice Baroque Orchestra. The concert was to be held at 7 p.m., today at Crossroads Bible Church.

If the concert association can reschedule this concert, it will widely publicize the new date, time and venue in regional newspapers, e-mail notices, on its website and on its telephone message line.

If the concert association is unable to reschedule this concert for later this season, it will offer several possible options to ticket holders.

Santa Fe Opera Names General Director

Susan G. Marineau, President of Santa Fe Opera, has announced the appointment of Robert K. Meya as General Director, effective Oct. 1, 2018.

Meya has served as Director of External Affairs at Santa Fe Opera since March of 2012. He will be the fourth General Director in the company’s 62-year history. As General Director, Meya will provide executive leadership, strategic direction, and administrative oversight for Santa Fe Opera.

Max Gomez Returns To Fuller Lodge March 10

New Mexico’s own Max Gomez will return to play a concert in Los Alamos in what is becoming an annual event for the singer-songwriter from Taos.

Gomez has won many fans on the Hill and has drawn a full house each of the last three years he has played here.

This year’s show is Saturday, March 10 at Fuller Lodge. Doors open at 6 p.m., Gomez takes the stage at 7:30 p.m. and beer and wine will be available from Bathtub Row Brewing Co-op. Light meals also will be available.

The concert is being produced by Live In Los Alamos, a concert production company

The Venice Baroque Orchestra, one of the world’s great period instrument ensembles, will appear in Los Alamos at 7 p.m. Friday, March 9 in the Crossroads Bible Church at 97 East Road.

Presented by the Los Alamos Concert Association, the ensemble will bring with them recorder virtuoso Anna Fusek.

LACA’s usual venue, the Duane Smith Auditorium is undergoing renovation and will not be available for this performance.

Air Force Academy Band To Perform In ABQ Feb. 26

March Brown Bag Performance Features Taos Pianists

The Los Alamos Arts Council’s March Brown Bag Performance will feature pianists from Taos, Kim Bakkum and Claire Detels, playing music by Romantic era composers, Clara Schumann (1819-1896), Cécile Chaminade (1857-1944), and Florence Price (1887-1953).
Some of the music will be played “four-hands,” two players on one piano.
The concert will begin at noon Wednesday, March 7, in Fuller Lodge. The Brown Bag concerts are free to the public.
Bakkum and Detels are professional pianists who have each established an international performing career.

A rare opportunity to hear Alexander Paley, the phenomenal Moldovan-American pianist, who will make his first appearance in Santa Fe at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 11 at the First Presbyterian Church of Santa Fe.

Paley defected from Russia to the United States in 1988 and later moved to Paris.

More than 20 years ago he founded two music festivals, in Richmond, Va., and Moulin d’Ande in France. His career is a busy mix of solo recitals, concerti and chamber music and he performs unusual four-hand piano works with his wife, Pei-wen Chen.

The Los Alamos County Library System presents the celebrated acoustic duo Hungrytown, 6:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, in the Pajarito Room at Fuller Lodge, 2132 Central Ave. in Los Alamos.

This is a free concert sponsored by the Los Alamos County Library System and the Friends of Los Alamos County Libraries.

Last July, Hungrytown returned from a successful six-and-a-half-month tour of the US, UK and New Zealand, covering over 16,000 miles in the US alone.

Canceled: Lady Luck Runs Out On ‘Guys And Dolls’

The remodeling of the Duane Smith Auditorium will not be complete in time for the opening of Los Alamos Light Opera’s production of “Guys and Dolls” scheduled for Friday, Feb. 23.

“In keeping with the gambling theme of ‘Guys and Dolls’, LA Light Opera continued to create sets, costume the cast, and rehearse the orchestra, hoping the auditorium would be open in time, as the “beep-beep” of construction hoists continued in the background … but luck ran out on the guys and the dolls,” said Laurie Tomlinson, LALO president and “Guys and Dolls” director.
