LAHS Hilltoppers Hammer EVHS Sundevils 57-12

The Topper Football team celebrated their victory over the Española Sundevils Friday night at Sullivan Field. The Toppers won by a large margin, the game last year was quite different as the Sundevils lead the game until the last minute of the game when Dylan Irish threw a Hail Mary pass to Jack Stewart in the end zone for the victory. So, this year’s victory margin of 57-12 was a bit of a surprise. Coach Garrett Williams was very pleased with the team’s execution of the plays on offense and defense and overall team effort. Free LPGA/USGA Girls Golf Clinics Through Oct. 6

The Los Alamos County Golf Course is hosting free golf clinics for girls ages 7-17 every Saturday 11 a.m. to noon through Saturday, Oct 6.
 
"My heart swells to see children at the golf course, particularly girls, and boy, can they really smack it," said Mhairi Mckay, clinic organizer and LPGA Pro. "The girls High School golf team has been helping out which is fantastic. We've never seen so many girls at the golf course, we love it and hope it's just the beginning. And thank you to Michael Philips who has been a huge advocate

LAPS Reminder Of Safety Policies For Events

The Hilltoppers open the 2018 sports season with a varsity football game versus Española this Friday. Game time is 7 p.m. and gates open at 5:30 p.m.
 
Saturday, the LAHS volleyball team will host Bloomfield High School and the girls’ soccer team will play against Santa Fe Prep at Sullivan Field.
 
With the start of fall sports in Los Alamos, and increased safety and security measures, we want to remind everyone of the “No Re-Entry” policy, which applies to all Hilltoppers events.

The game gave head coach, Ron Blue a chance to see his players in action and evaluate the team effort. The girls soccer team played Santa Fe Prep in a scrimmage game Saturday afternoon at Sullivan Field. Both teams took the opportunity to play a game before the season starts to evaluate players and try different players in different positions. County And Community Honor Pierotti’s Clowns

A crowd gathered Tuesday in the Los Alamos County Council Chambers to honor, congratulate and reminisce about the Pierotti's Clowns. The community turned out for the opening of the exhibit about the five-man softball team, which is featured in the lobby of the Municipal Building. The amateur softball team started in 1953 and played for 25 years. All the money they raised from games went to charities.

The induction will be included in the Homecoming weekend festivities Sept. 28-29.

High School sports 2018-19 season officially began Monday with football, volleyball, cross country and boys and girls soccer practices. The new season promises to be exciting as the Toppers district was reorganized to include Espanola, Pojoaque, Taos and Moriarty. The volleyball team is practicing in Griffith Gym this week. DEMING Albuquerque has hot air balloons, Santa Fe burns Old Man Gloom and Deming has its ducks.
 
Since 1980, Deming has hosted the annual Great American Duck Race. The 39th edition of the event is Aug. 23-26, 2018 at the McKinley Duck Downs at Courthouse Park in Deming.
 
The Great American Duck Race, presented by Luna Energy Facility, features our favorite water fowl racing, but also includes the Columbus Electric Co-op Tournament of Ducks Parade, the Mizkan America, Inc.

Community Celebration Of Pierotti’s Clowns Exhibit

The Los Alamos History Museum will host a community celebration of Pierotti’s Clowns 4-6 p.m., Tuesday in the Municipal Building lobby. This celebration coincides with the display of the Museum’s latest Municipal Building exhibit, “Pierotti’s Clowns: Creating Community.” The celebration will offer refreshments and memories of the Clowns.
 
At 4:45 p.m., researchers and family members will share stories of the team, its history, and its influence on the community.

LAMS Tennis Fall Athlete Registration Thursday

Parents of 7th or 8th graders interested in Los Alamos Middle School Tennis should attend the Fall Athlete Registration Meeting 5:30-7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 9 in the LAMS gym.

Waterbury Best Predictor In Weekly Pace Race

Valerie Waterbury had a 3 second error off her predicted time for the top prediction at the weekly pace race Tuesday on the trail behind the Aquatic Center. 

Other accurate predictors were: Libby Nolen, 11, was 15 seconds off as well as the first finisher in the 1 mile road course with a 8:21, Tristan Johnson, 5, and grandmother Heidi Bjorklund were tied at 27 seconds, Jacob Waterbury, 9, recorded a 33 second difference and Jackie Marr was 36 seconds off.

William Strother, 9, was the top male finisher in the 1 mile road course recording a 9:11.

High Cascade Snowboard Camp Mount Hood, Ore., announces the hiring of its new camp director Gregg Janecky, a Los Alamos High School graduate.
 
Janecky began his HCSC career 10 summers ago as a trampoline monitor and most recently was lead counselor. Along the way he developed the organization's trampoline program and built the Lodge into the center of camp life in government camp.
 
Outside of camp, Janecky is a career coach with a graduate degree in sports management.

Andy (Andres) Enriquez of Los Alamos competed and placed in the 4th, 5th and a bronze for three Junior Olympics for Sport Stacking events in Iowa.
 
The back story: Enriquez had two mild concussions in 2017- one during a hockey practice and one about a month and a half later while playing basketball.

The 44th running of the Los Alamos Triathlon was Saturday and is one of the oldest, continuously running sprint triathlons in the nation that has a unique format of Bike-Swim-Run. This year 122 entrants participated in the landmark event. The winners of the Junior Class: Male - Jonah Pratt, Female - Libby Nolan. Winners for the Elite Class: Male - Robert Browning, Female - Liz Miller. Winners for the Individual Class: Male - Quinn Abfalterer, Female - Whitney Spivey. In the Athena Class: Esther Brunette.
