Hilltoppers Compete At Lubbock Swim/Dive Invitational

The Los Alamos High School Hilltoppers Swimming and Diving teams competed Jan. 5-6 at the Lubbock HS Swimming and Diving Invitational at the Pete Ragus Aquatic Center in Lubbock, Texas.

The invitational was a very competitive high school meet, drawing nearly 500 swimmers and divers from across Texas, including teams from Dallas, Houston and El Paso.

Hilltoppers Fall To Eagles

The Hardrock 100 Mile Endurance Run welcomes new Board of Director members Tom Stockton of Los Alamos along with Doug Hart and Mary Monroe Brown.
 
Approaching its 25th year of running, the Hardrock 100 Mile Endurance Run has expanded its Board of Directors from 9 to 11 members, following the lottery held Dec. 2, 2017. Stockton, Hart and Monroe Brown will join the current Board of Directors after longtime involvement with the Southern Colorado running community.

Los Alamos athletes showed their true grit and determination and found success on the field, on the court, and everywhere in between in 2017. The town of the Hilltoppers brought home championships and top finishes, and Los Alamos has a lot to be proud of.

Tabatha Jones of White Rock waived her preliminary hearing Friday in Los Alamos Magistrate Court on a charge of embezzling more than $2,500 and less than $20,000 from the non-profit Los Alamos Youth Football and Cheerleading League (LAYFCL).

The charge is a third-degree felony, which carries a possible penalty of three years in prison and/or a $5,000 fine.

NMAA: ‘Compete With Class’ Honors Seven Rival High Schools For Compassion Following Aztec Tragedy

ALBUQUERQUE  The New Mexico Activities Association has announced that seven schools from the Northwest corner of the state have been recognized as the Compete with Class award recipients for the month of December 2017.
 
In an email to the NMAA from Aztec Athletic Director Bryan Sanders following the tragic events that occurred on the Aztec High School campus in early December, he explained how these seven rival high schools rallied in support of a community in need.

The Los Alamos High School Hilltoppers Swimming and Diving teams traveled Dec. 16 to West Mesa High School in Albuquerque for the APS Mini-Invitational.
 
The meet included more than 200 swimming and diving competitors from 8 high school teams, including La Cueva which was the runner-up team in both the girls and boys competition at the 2017 New Mexico State Swimming and Diving Championships in February.

BELEN – The Los Alamos Hilltopper boys’ basketball team finished in third place at the Hub City Tournament at Belen High School. The ‘Toppers beat Mission Achievement and Success Charter out of Albuquerque in the first round by a 69-23 score to advance to the winners bracket.

The ‘Toppers ran into a strong 6-A Manzano team, also out of Albuquerque, losing a very tight contest 71-65. The Monarchs ended up winning the Hub City Tournament over host Belen.

The Lady Topper Basketball Team is about ready to take to the floor for their first game in the Joe Armijo Basketball ClassicJoe Armijo Basketball Classic played Thursday in the gymnasium at Albuquerque Academy. The tournament ran for three days and is one of the premier tournaments of the basketball season featuring teams from around the state. The toppers drew the Las Cruces Bulldawgs for their first game. The Bulldawgs are a 6A team and rated the number one team in the state.

Jingle Bell Run Sunday

The Los Alamos High School Band is hosting the third Annual Jingle Bell Rock 'N Run Sunday, Dec. 10 to raise money for the Los Alamos High School and Middle School band programs.

The fun run includes the choice of a 5K or 1 mile run and is modeled after the popular Rock and Roll marathons by featuring live music along the routes. Students from the Los Alamos High School and Middle School bands will be playing holiday tunes for the runners. Costs are $30 for the 5K (race day registration is $35) and $10 for the mile.
