Reyna Lucero opened the 2018 softball home season by pitching a no hitter against the St. Pius Sartans Saturday at Overlook Park in White Rock. The Espanola Sun Devils progressed all the way to the State Championship game for class 5A played at Dream Style Arena aka The Pit Saturday night to meet the Belen Eagles. Hilltopper Baseball Falls To Hope Christian Huskies

The Hilltopper baseball team played the second home game of the new season Thursday at Bomber Field on North Mesa. This time they played the Hope Christian Huskies, a premier class 4a team from Albuquerque.  For the first five innings the teams played more or less even until the Huskies hit a two-run home run. That opened a gap that the Toppers were unable to close and lost the contest 1-5. Jacob Rutten was the lead off pitcher. He had nine strikeouts before being relieved at the end of the fifth inning. Southwest Nordic Ski Club Finishes Strong In Leadville Loppet And Chamalauf At Wolf Creek

The Southwest Nordic Ski Club competed in the Leadville Loppet held Feb. 17 and in the Chamalauf event Feb. 24 in Wolf Creek.

Both events took place in Colorado.

The Los Alamos High School Boys and Girls Swimming and Diving Team would like to give a huge thank you to all the local businesses who supported the 2018 District Swimming and Diving Championship Meet that was hosted Feb. 2-3 in Los Alamos.

Through the generosity of these local restaurants and businesses we were able to host 11 New Mexico swimming and diving teams at this event and promote the hospitality of our great community.

Boys Topper Tennis Takes 2nd Behind Solid Upperclassmen Play And Newcomers

The Topper Boys tennis team began the 2018 season Feb. 9 and 10 with a 2nd place finish in El Paso, Texas. Sixteen teams participated including 10 Texas schools and six New Mexico schools.
This is the best finish the Topper Boys have enjoyed in 8.5 years. Junior Thomas Chadwick finished 3rd in singles with a 4th and 5th finishes from LAHS Boys doubles teams, Martin Naud/Isaiah Martin and Jun Kim/Tim Martin.

Utah Women's Swimming wrapped up competition at the Pac-12 Championships recently with strong showings and record-breaking performances.
The top moment came early in the day when Los Alamos High School graduate Sarah Lott set a new school record in the prelims of the 200 back.

This past Saturday the Los Alamos Chapter of the Knights of Columbus hosted the District round of the Free Throw Championship competition. The event was held at Griffith Gymnasium in Los Alamos for boys and girls ages 9-13. This was the District portion of the competition with the winners progressing to the State Competition March 17 at the Bernalillo High School Gymnasium. Alex Kirk Foundation Announces Scholarships For YMCA Teen Center Youth

The Alex Kirk Foundation has established a unique scholarship opportunity for members of Los Alamos and Española Teen Centers, both operated by The Family YMCA through contracts.

The scholarships will reward one member from each teen center up to $1,000 for active participation in programs, services and initiatives offered at each Teen Center. Alex Kirk, former Los Alamos High School Hilltopper and University of New Mexico Lobo, is playing professional basketball for the Tokyo Alvark Tokyo.

Los Alamos Nukes rugby team players Preston Brown and Ryan McNiel have been selected to play with the New Mexico All-Star High School team March 1-3 in Las Vegas, Nev., at the Las Vegas Invitational Tournament.

The tournament is billed as the largest rugby tournament in North America and will be played alongside the USA Sevens annual international tournament. The LVI is considered the premier U.S. rugby event and features athletes and match-ups across a wide range of divisions and age groups.

YMCA: Little Youth Basketball Registration Grades K-1st Open Until March 2

YMCA News:
Registration is open for the YMCA’s developmental co-ed Little Youth Basketball program.
Practices and games are two times per week in Los Alamos or White Rock March 6 through April 19.
This program provides and introduction to basketball for girls and boys. Mini-sized balls will be used on 8’ baskets to allow players to learn proper shooting technique. Focus will be on developing coordination and learning the basic rules of the game.
Volunteer coaches and team parents needed. The Y keeps the teams small so all get plenty of skills practice and play time.

VADITO Sipapu Ski Resort near Taos, received 10 inches of fresh powder overnight with additional snow in the forecast this week.
Again, Sipapu leads the state for the second time in five days with the most fresh snowfall in the past 24 hours!
