LA School Of Gymnastics Brings Home 17 Gold Medals

The Los Alamos Atomic Tumblers traveled Sunday, Jan. 21 to Albuquerque to compete in the Winter Fiesta. More than 400 gymnasts from 15 teams competed throughout the weekend.
The Atomic Tumblers competed In the Xcel competition. The Los Alamos team is the only team in New Mexico that fielded enough gymnasts in the (top) Diamond Division for team competition. Therefore there was not a Diamond team competition.

Los Alamos Slam Basketball Tryouts Feb. 11

Los Alamos Slam Basketball tryouts for boys in third and fourth grades and girls in third through 8th grades are noon to 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11 at Griffith Gymnasium.

YMCA Little Youth Basketball Registration Opens Today

YMCA News:

Registration opens today for YMCA Little Youth Basketball for grades K-1st for the YMCA’s developmental co-ed Little Youth Basketball program. Practices and games are two times per week in Los Alamos or White Rock March 6 through April 19. 

Players, coaches and team parents are needed.

This program provides an introduction to basketball for girls and boys. Mini-sized balls will be used on 8’ baskets to allow players to learn proper shooting technique. 

Focus will be on developing coordination and learning the basic rules of the game. Volunteer coaches and team parents needed.

Cougars Dominate Hockey Game

Lady 'Toppers Fall To Sundevils

Walk-in registration for youth and high school lacrosse teams is 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23 in the multipurpose room of the White Rock Library and 6–7:30 p.m. Thursday Jan. 25 at the Los Alamos Ice Rink.
This year, registration is on-line. Laptops will be available at walk-in registration, or families can register on line from home at
Boys and girls from age 9 through high school seniors are welcome. Practices will start in early-to- mid-February and are held at the Dara Jones Field at Overlook Park in White Rock.

Hilltopper Swimmers And Divers Sweep Griffin Invite

The Los Alamos High School swimming and diving teams won both girls and boys team titles at the Griffin Swimming and Diving Invitational Jan. 18-19 at Genoveva Chavez Community Center in Santa Fe.
The girls outpointed Hope Christian, 549.5 to 252, to take first in a field of 13 teams. The Hilltopper boys scored 550 points to St Pius X’s 313 tally.

High Flyers Win At Winter Invitational

The High Flyers Level 2 gymnastics team from Los Alamos won first place team last weekend at the Winter Invitational held at Eagle Ridge Gymnastics in Rio Rancho.
The 11 girls on the team, who range in age from 6 through 10, were competing in their second ever meet. In individual awards, Lauren Evenhus placed first all-around with a score of 36.025 and also took home first place medals on uneven bars, balance beam, and floor exercise.

Swimmers from the Meiji University out of Tokyo, Japan will host their training camp at the Larry R. Walkup Aquatic Center in Los Alamos. Wendy Lott of the Aquatic Center said the athletes are preparing to qualify for the Japanese Swimming Federation National Team to participate in competitions leading up to the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.
The dates are not confirmed, Lott said, but they are tentatively set for late February to early March

Los Alamos Atomic Tumblers opened their competitive season this past weekend in Rio Rancho. More than 400 gymnasts from 15 New Mexico teams competed.
In the Xcel competition, Los Alamos’ Diamond team won the team competition. Chantel Bibeault took the all-around gold with a 36.15. She also took silver in all four individual events with, 9.00 on vault, 8.95 on bars, 9.05 on beam, and 9.15 on floor. Team mate Hannah Gram took gold on bars and beam with 9.05 and 9.10 respectively.

The Los Alamos High School swimming and diving teams travelled to Albuquerque Academy for the 20th Annual Academy Invitational Jan. 12-13.
The boys team finished runner-up to Academy by a close 872-842 tally, while the girls team finished 3rd behind host Academy and Clovis. The meet attracted 23 teams.
The lone winner for the Hilltoppers was junior Jillian Bennett who took her specialty, the 100 breast, in a 1:10.43 win over Academy senior Sewit Yohannes.

UNM Lobo Hockey To Visit Los Alamos Saturday

The University of New Mexico Men’s Hockey team will invade the Los Alamos County Ice Rink at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13 for an inter-squad scrimmage.

The Lobos will travel back to Albuquerque after the scrimmage to host Dallas Baptist University in an 8 p.m. tilt. There is no cost to attend the scrimmage.

The Lobos are 12-1-1 on the season and ranked 8 in the country in Division-III hockey while averaging 6.5 goals a game.
