The downtown area in Los Alamos may grow. Los Alamos County Council unanimously approved during its Tuesday night meeting to direct the County Manager to investigate the possibility of rezoning the areas located at the beginning of DP Road and west of Oppenheimer Drive from general commercial to downtown.

Woodland Trail Reopens Following Sewer Overflow Issue

The Los Alamos County Department of Public Utilities (DPU) treated a sewer overflow that occurred over the weekend on the Woodland Trail behind Fire Station #4 near the corner of Diamond Drive and Range Road.

Local Property Tax Exemptions Clinic For Veterans Feb. 6

Representatives with the New Mexico Department of Veterans Services and Los Alamos County Assessor’s office are holding a clinic for military veterans and unmarried widows of veterans on Tuesday, Feb. 6, in Los Alamos.

Veterans are encouraged to drop in between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the Municipal Building, 1000 Central Ave., Suite 210 for assistance identifying property tax exemptions that may significantly reduce the taxable value of their primary residences.

Traffic Alert:

The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) will be conducting guardrail maintenance today, Jan. 29, on NM-502 eastbound of Los Alamos from the bottom of Main Hill Road (mile marker 7) to the bottom of Totavi Hill (mile marker 6).

Los Alamos County Environmental Services will be closed Wednesday, Jan. 31 for employee development, safety training and certification compliance.

This includes operations at the Eco Station and the Overlook Convenience Center. Residential service will not be impacted; however, commercial trash and recycling collection service will also be suspended Wednesday, Jan. 31. Commercial collection service will be provided the following day Thursday, Feb. 1.

The Los Alamos County Council unanimously selected Perry Klare at the Jan. 23 work session to complete Probate Judge Michael Redondo’s term. Judge Redondo announced in November his intent to resign his position effective Feb. 2.

Raised in Los Alamos, Klare is a practicing attorney who returned to the community in 2020 to care for his father after his mother passed. He brings a wealth of legal experience and knowledge of the community to the position.
