Los Alamos County Council Considers Proposal For Family Resource, Support And Parent Education Services

The discussion continues on how best to award the Los Alamos County’s contract for family resource, support and parent education services.

County Council provided some direction to staff during its working session Tuesday night.

The discussion originally kicked off when Family Strengths Network and Las Cumbres applied for the contract in June and the County initially recommended the contract be awarded to Las Cumbres.

Utility Work On Trinity At 15th Moved To Monday, Aug. 24

TRAFFIC ALERT:

The new schedule of work for ABI Mechanical, under contract with Natural Grocers is moved to next week.

Weather permitting, crews will tie the new grocery store into Los Alamos County’s water, natural gas and sewer systems on Trinity Drive and 15th Street, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. beginning Monday, Aug. 24 through Tuesday, Sep. 8.

ABI crews will be working in the road on Trinity at the 15th Street intersection. Various lane drops will occur at different times and affect traffic in the area.

Los Alamos County Tourism Implementation Task Force Deadline To Submit Application Extended To Tuesday Sept.1

The Los Alamos County Council is still seeking members for the Tourism Implementation Task Force.

The deadline for letters of interest has been extended to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1.

The Council recently reauthorized the Tourism Implementation Task Force and renewed its charter through April 2022. The Task Force, initially formed in 2018, provides guidance and expertise to the Council and County staff on tourism implementation issues.

On Continued Support For Carbon Free Power Project

In April 2018, County Council and the Board of Public Utilities (BPU) voted to continue the county’s involvement in the Carbon Free Power Project (CFPP), a planned small modular reactor (SMR) nuclear generating station at Idaho National Laboratory. 

The project is being pursued by UAMPS, a group including us of 47 public power providers, of which 35 are participating. The 2018 decision added approximately $100,000 to Los Alamos’ investment in CFPP, for a total today of $258,000.

Traffic Alert: Large Transports Enter Community Wednesday

TRAFFIC ALERT:

Los Alamos County Traffic and Streets Crews, working in conjunction with Los Alamos Police Department officers, will assist in the transport of two over-sized units through Los Alamos at different times during the day Wednesday.

First, during early morning hours and ahead of the morning commute peak travel time, a large crane will enter Los Alamos from N.M. 502 and travel westbound on Trinity Drive to Diamond Drive, then to Sullivan Field.

The Los Alamos County Parks Division is working toward updating the playground equipment at Rover Park at 317 Rover Blvd. in White Rock.
