AGU: Freak Rockfall Accident In China

The Chengdu Business Daily has a report of a freak rockfall accident that occurred June 30 in Shimian County in Sichuan Province, China.
 
At the time a bus was driving on the S217 Provincial Road between Chengdu and Wuhu, carrying 38 people. The coach was struck by a large boulder. It appears that the boulder penetrated, and became wedged through, the windscreen of the coach. The driver, Zhao Jianguo, a 44-year-old native of Chengdu, was pinned in his seat and killed.

Superintendent Jason Lott announced today that the entire Tsankawi Unit in Bandelier will be closed to all public use Tuesday, July 10, due to road pavement work on N.M. 4.
 
Since the construction work area will block access to the parking area for Tsankawi, this closure is being put into place to mitigate safety concerns for commuters, visitors and the construction workers. Tsankawi is expected to re-open Wednesday, July 11.

FBI: New Mexico State Police Officer Arrested On Federal Drug Trafficking Charges

ALBUQUERQUE U.S. Attorney John C. Anderson, Acting Special Agent in Charge Maxwell D. Marker of the FBI’s Albuquerque Division, New Mexico State Police (NMSP) Chief Pete Kassetas, San Juan County Sheriff Ken Christesen, and Director Kevin Burns of the HIDTA Region II Narcotics Task Force announced Monday that a NMSP officer has been arrested and is charged with violating the federal drug laws.
 
NMSP Ofc. Daniel Capehart, 33, of Bloomfield, was arrested by the FBI, NMSP, San Juan County Sheriff’s Office (SJCSO), and HIDTA Region II Narcotics Task Force June 29, 2018.

Mud Slide Closes US 64 From Eagle Nest To Cimarron

NMSP News Alert:

Eagle Nest – State Police and the New Mexico Department of Transportation are working a large mud slide on US Highway 64 near Eagle Nest.

US 64 is closed from mile post 287 before Eagle Nest to mile post 309 in Cimarron. DOT is working to clear the roadway. There is currently no estimate of how long the closure will last.
