Congress Must Extend Farm Bill By Sept. 30

LYONS, NE Congress has five days to act before the 2014 farm bill expires.
 
In response, Center for Rural Affairs Policy Associate Cora Fox said failing to pass a new farm bill or extend the current farm bill lets down farmers and ranchers.
She said at this point, passage of a 2018 farm bill before the Sept. 30 deadline seems unlikely.
 
“In the absence of a new farm bill, it is imperative that lawmakers extend current legislation,” Fox said. “Farmers and ranchers across the country rely on important programs that will sunset without an extension of the 2014 farm bill.”

SANTA FE Native fish restoration efforts on Whitewater Creek is scheduled for Oct. 10-21.
 
As part of the Whitewater Creek Native Fish Restoration Project, the department will remove non-native trout from Whitewater Creek to allow restoration of Gila trout and other native fish to their historic range.
 
This portion of the project starts at the Gila National Forest boundary below the Catwalk National Recreation Trail parking area and continues upstream to the headwaters.

FBI: Man Robs Albuquerque Bank, Flees In White Jeep

A man wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt robbed a westside Albuquerque bank Sept. 21 and fled in a newer model white Jeep Compass.
 
The suspect was described as a heavy-set white male in his 30s, approximately 6’1” to 6’5” tall. He had a reddish beard. He wore a blue hooded sweatshirt, a camouflage bandana over his face, dark gloves, blue jeans and carried a blue bag.
