WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Senators Tom Udall and Martin Heinrich and U.S. Rep. Ben Ray Luján have announced that the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) has awarded $1.3 million to Navajo Technical University (NTU) in Crownpoint, NM to build a Metrology and Materials Center (MMTC).

SANTA FE ― The New Mexico State Game Commission will meet Friday, Oct. 5, in Albuquerque to review final biennial review of state listed and endangered species and the fiscal year 2018 report on depredation and nuisance abatement.
The meeting will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish’s new Northwest Regional Office located at 7816 Alamo Road NW, in Albuquerque.

SANTA FE ― Fire managers on the Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) completed a 545 acre prescribed burn Monday in the Santa Fe Watershed, about three miles east of the City of Santa Fe, to help protect the watershed from high intensity wildfire.
Prescribed burning is not planned in the watershed again until the spring.
The 545 acre prescribed burn was conducted in proximity to Nichols and McClure Reservoirs. Parts of a 450 acre area northeast of Nichols Reservoir received treatment, as did parts of a 500 acre area just south of McClure Reservoir.

SANTA FE — The unclaimed cremated remains of nine military veterans who, upon their deaths, were indigent or whose body went unclaimed by family members, will be laid to rest at a special Forgotten Heroes Funeral at 11 a.m., Oct. 4, at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
Their cremains will be interred with full military honors in accordance with the state’s Forgotten Heroes Burial Program. This unique program was established by the New Mexico Department of Veterans Services–with help from Bernalillo County—to ensure that no veteran will be alone at the end.

SANTA FE ― Three paintings from renown Santa Fe artist Joseph Henry Sharp, a founding member of the Taos Artist Society, have been donated to the New Mexico Museum of Art. The donations were made by Lore Thorpe, the daughter-in-law of Kathryn V. Thorpe, the former owner/manager of Bishop’s Lodge.
