SANTA FE – The Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) will waive fees at many recreation sites on National Public Lands Day, Saturday, Sept. 26. National Public Lands Day traditionally celebrates volunteer work on public lands and the opportunity to connect to nature.
The Forest Service participates in fee-free days with other federal agencies to commemorate holidays and encourage Americans to visit their public lands. The final fee-free day for 2020 is Nov. 11, Veterans Day.

ALBUQUERQUE — Jose Armijo, 36, of Albuquerque made an appearance in Federal Court Thursday facing two counts of robbery by threats and violence.
Armijo remains in custody.
According to a criminal complaint, Dec. 30, 2018, Armijo allegedly entered a retail store with several accomplices and began placing high-value items into backpacks and laundry bags.
As Armijo and his accomplices approached the store exit, Armijo allegedly brandished a firearm to threaten the store manager and security guard and left the store with stolen merchandise.

New Mexico August Unemployment Rate 11.3 Percent

New Mexico’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 11.3 percent in August 2020, down from 12.7 percent in July and up from 4.8 percent in the previous year.
The national unemployment rate in August was 8.4 percent, down from 10.2 percent in July and up from 3.7 percent in August 2019.
Total nonagricultural payroll employment fell by 70,500 jobs, or 8.2 percent, between August 2019 and August 2020. Losses came from both the public and the private sector.
The private sector was down 63,600 jobs, or 9.4 percent.

SANTA FE – New Mexico state health officials have announced this afternoon 67 additional positive tests for COVID-19.
Los Alamos County remains at 31 cases that have tested positive for COVID-19.
Today’s update also announces 2 new deaths reported in New Mexico related to COVID-19.
