Environment Department COVID-19 Watchlist Update: Dec. 7

NMED News:

The New Mexico Environment Department (NMED) has updated its daily Rapid Response COVID-19 Watchlist, which includes New Mexico places of employment that have had two or more rapid responses in the last 14 days.

There are 148 establishments on the Watchlist.

The Rapid Response COVID-19 Watchlist and closure list, which includes all establishments that have been or are currently required to be closed, are posted here.

National Park Service Awards $2.2 Million To Protect Historic American Battlefields In Mississippi, North Carolina, Virginia

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The National Park Service Wednesday announced $2,208,110 in grants from the American Battlefield Protection Program to protect 169.03 acres of America’s Civil War battlefields.

The grants will be used to acquire portions of Mississippi’s Brices Cross Roads, Raymond and Vicksburg battlefields, as well as tracts at Bentonville Battlefield in North Carolina and at Virginia’s Petersburg and Williamsburg battlefields.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the annual Santa Fe Snowshoe Classic, normally hosted by the Santa Fe Striders running club in January at the Big Tesuque Campground, will be virtual in 2021.

LAPS: Update On Small Group Instruction

With a focus on safety and student well-being, the Los Alamos School Board paused Hybrid Learning in elementary schools until Jan. 18, 2021.

Students will be learning remotely during December and the first few weeks in January. This will allow parents to follow the changing health orders from the Governor and give LAPS the opportunity to recruit more substitute teachers.

USGS National Wildlife Health Center: Starvation And Weather Blamed In Mass Migratory Songbird Mortality

SANTA FE — The U.S. Geological Survey National Wildlife Health Center has analyzed representative samples of the migratory songbirds collected, cataloged and sent for analyses by New Mexico Department of Game and Fish (NMGF) biologists, in early September.

The lab report indicates that the single abnormality shared by nearly all birds was body condition ranging from poor to severely emaciated.

SANTA FE – New Mexico state health officials announced this afternoon 1,250 additional positive tests for COVID-19.

Los Alamos County reports 2 more cases today … the total is now 178 people who have tested positive for COVID-19.
