New Mexico Youth Ice Hockey Teams Headed To International Finals In Canada

ALBUQUERQUE  New Mexico Ice Wolves youth ice hockey will send three teams to Canada to compete at the International Silver Stick Finals Tournament in January 2017 after all three won Regional Silver Stick championships over Thanksgiving weekend.
 
The Squirt C NM Ice Wolves team (10 years old and under) advanced to play in the Pelham, Ontario Recreational Finals tournament running Jan. 5-8, 2017.
 
The Midget Minor A NM Ice Wolves team (16 years old and under) advanced to play in the Newmarket, Ontario Finals tournament running Jan.

NMAA Hall Of Fame ‘Class Of 2017’ Announced

ALBUQUERQUE  The New Mexico Activities Association, in conjunction with the NMAA Hall of Fame Committee, announces the Class of 2017 for induction into the NMAA Hall of Fame.
 
The NMAA Hall of Fame induction ceremony and luncheon will be at 12 p.m., Thursday, March 9, 2017 at the Albuquerque Marriott Pyramid Hotel.
 
The ring ceremony, presented by Herff Jones, will take place during the U.S. Bank State Basketball Championships on March 9, 2017, at halftime of the 6:30 p.m. semifinal game at WisePies Arena aka The Pit.

Los Alamos NJROTC Defeats Lafayette AJROTC

Los Alamos NJROTC defeated Lafayette AJROTC 1502 to 1445 last week in the National Air Rifle League.
 
Los Alamos NJROTC finishes the regular season in second place in their Division with a 6-1 record. Los Alamos NJROTC was led by Samantha Miller who shot a 386. The remaining contributing members were Holly Hayes, Stephanie Nielsen and Jacob Torrez. Los Alamos NJROTC is coached by Wes Shumaker.

Los Alamos NJROTC’s season will continue next week in the Post-Season tournament. They received an automatic bid by finishing second in the Champion’s Division

Two Southern New Mexico Communities Receive Housing Improvement Grants

ALBUQUERQUE ― USDA Rural Development State Director Terry Brunner announced a grant of $50,000 to Tierra del Sol Housing, Inc. to make improvements to six homes in Columbus and Anthony in southern New Mexico.
 
The funds were made available through USDA Rural Development’s Housing Preservation Grant Program, which provides financial support in the form of a grant to help non-profits and public entities make repairs to existing housing for low income residents in rural communities.
