Scenes From Local Young Life Organization

on June 16, 2019 - 10:49am

The local Young Life organization has a goal to introduce adolescents to Jesus and help them grow in their faith. This is done by building bridges of friendship and earning the right to be heard, sharing life and faith and allowing teens the opportunity to make an informed decision about who Jesus is. The programs are custom made for kids throughout their adolescent years. Young Life is the name of the organization and also the term used for the program with high school students. The program for middle school students is called WyldLife.

Fr. Glenn: Father’s Day

on June 16, 2019 - 7:47am

By Fr. Glenn Jones

A very happy and joy-filled and blessed Father’s Day to all you dads out there! (Is it “Fathers”,  “Father’s”, or “Fathers’”? Ah well … no matter.) What an honor you have to be entrusted with the care and teaching of God’s precious little ones—your children … those little images of God as we all are, but they with that innocence that we adults have most often lost but are called by Christ to emulate: “Whoever humbles himself like this child, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me…” (Matthew 18:4-5)

Fr. Glenn: ‘Ordinary’ Time

on June 9, 2019 - 9:31am

By Fr. Glenn Jones:

Today (Sunday, June 9) we come to one of most important Christian days of the year and that which closes out the Easter season: Pentecost—commemorating an event described in the Acts of the Apostles chapter 2—an annual commemoration of what Christians hold to be the coming of the Holy Spirit of God upon Jesus’ apostles. At this event the apostles were imbued with wisdom, fortitude and courage with which they went out and taught of Jesus and His Word.

Pentecost is often called the “birthday” of the Christian Church, for the apostles quit hiding in fear and went forth to

For many women around the world, menstruation can be a humiliating or physically painful experience because they don’t have any resources to help manage their flow.

According to the Days for Girls website, for many young women in rural areas or developing countries, getting their period forces them to miss school or prevents them from graduating.

Fr. Glenn: Being True

on June 2, 2019 - 7:10am

By Fr. Glenn Jones

Last week this column spoke of encouraging youth (and everyone, really) to make those often weighty (and constant) decisions of choosing between the good and the easy … between what is popular yet lacking, and that which is virtuous yet difficult ... though it possibly be even ostracizing.

This is the perpetual struggle for the Christian because the truth of Jesus’ words is often quite manifest: “Enter by the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is easy, that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many.
