Little Shop On The Corner: Early Fall Special Sept. 25

TOTH News:

The Little Shop on the Corner, the thrift store inside Trinity on the Hill Episcopal Church at the corner of Canyon Road and Trinity Drive will offer an Early Fall Special on women's pants this week.

Customers can get three pairs of pants for $1. This excludes items in the boutique section.

Little Shop on the Corner is open 8:30 a.m. to noon Wednesday.

With the visit of President Trump to New Mexico recently, and with the division in the American political arena highlighted daily in the news, it seemed almost providential that one of the readings for the Catholic Mass this weekend was from St. Paul: “I ask that supplications, prayers, petitions and thanksgivings be offered for everyone, for kings and for all in authority….”  (1 Timothy 2:1) Well, in our day that can make many grind their teeth not a little. “What? Pray for Trump?!” or, in a blast from the past: “What! Pray for Obama?!”

Bryce Avenue Presbyterian Church in White Rock is hosting a Fall Conference that will touch upon the difficult theme of mental illness in the church with the hope of encouraging families in similar situations. The conference is offered free of charge.

A Memorial Service celebrating the life of Irene Davis-Dellinger is 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29 at the White Rock Presbyterian Church, 310 Rover Blvd. in White Rock.

Benefit Ride To The Springs Draws More Than 50 Riders To Support Injured La Cueva Teen Wyatt Taylor

Riders arrive Saturday morning in the parking lot at the Knights of Columbus Hall at 401 Trinity Dr. for the start of the Ride to the Springs, a benefit ride for La Cueva teen Wyatt Taylor seriously injured in a RTV accident in 2017. The effort raised more than $11,702 to help offset reconstructive procedures Taylor is facing and support the Catholic church in Jemez Springs. Was looking at Facebook this morning (yes, kids; old Fr. Glenn knows about Facebook), and noted that the number of “If you believe/agree with this, share!” or the guilt-attempting: “I bet I won’t get even 1 share!” posts. And, of course, who has not received myriad requests to “like” this or that, or to become “friends” with people of whose identity you have no clue—a “friend” of a friend of a friend of...” …in their attempt to “collect” as many “friends” as possible.

The trend is rather disturbing, actually—the persons posting such things seeming to be pleading: “Please

In an earlier essay, I touched on the choice that we share with all animals: either to go forward towards resources that sustain us or to draw away from that which can cause us harm. The emotional system that controls our forward motion has been labeled the Seeking emotional system by the noted neuroscientist Jaak Panksepp. While it’s needed for life, this emotional system can lead us into a lot of trouble.
