Shoe Box Gifts Needed for Operation Christmas Child

Christmas is arriving early in Los Alamos, as White Rock Baptist Church prepares to serve as a collection point for Operation Christmas Child.

Soon, with the help of local volunteers, the site will be brimming with festively wrapped shoe boxes full of gifts.

United Church Thrift Shop Grand Opening Nov. 14

The community is invited to the grand opening celebration of the United Church Thrift Shop Nov. 14.

The thrift shop's new location at 2525 Canyon Road is in the lower level of Craig Hall, opening onto the parking lot on the west side of the church property.

The event will take place 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with door prizes.

At about 10 a.m., the Los Alamos Chamber of Commerce will mark the occasion with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

Winsted is director of Children’s Ministries International in Atlanta, Ga.

Huge Yard Sale to Benefit Fire Damaged Church

The New Beginnings Fellowship Church will hold a benefit yard sale starting at 8 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3.

Anything that is donated to the yard sale will be greatly appreciated by the chuch, which suffered heavy fire damage in July.

Donations can be dropped off until noon Friday behind the church at 112 East Road.

"We are hoping for a community-wide response to help the New Beginnings Fellowship Church devastated by fire on the Fourth of July."

A song we will be singing at 6:07 p.m. this Sunday night at our Contemporary Service, at Trinity on the Hill, is called “You Are More,” from Tenth Avenue North. One of the verses sings of a girl with tear-stained eyes, sitting in the corner of a bar. She wonders “How did I get here? I’m not who I once was, and I’m crippled by the fear that I’ve fallen too far to love.”

I know I’ve hit that wall before in my life. Perhaps you have, too. It’s a feeling beyond despair—a sense of being so lost, you don’t even know the way back home.

The First Baptist Church of Los Alamos is hosting a Fall Gathering Conference on Oct. 27 and 28 focusing on "Building Stronger Marriage, Parenting, & Family - Relationships." 

Dr. Doug Weiss is the guest speaker at the conference. First Baptist Church is at 2200 Diamond Dr.

Weiss is a licensed psychologist and the executive director of Heart to Heart Counseling Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.

He has appeared as an expert on many national TV shows including Dr. Phil, Oprah, 20/20, Good Morning America and the 700 Club.

Community Invited to Dedicate Labyrinth Oct. 27

Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2390 North Road in Los Alamos announces the dedication of its Labyrinth and invites the public to help in consecrating this new sacred space for use by all members of the Los Alamos Community.

The dedication ceremony is 2-4 p.m., Oct. 27 at Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church. 

"We are very excited to have this meditation path as a spiritual resource for the entire community and hope that it will be widely used by many people, no matter what their faith or spiritual foundations," Kate Thomas said.

1 package of Acai packs (4 in one package, enough for 2 people), you can buy them at Whole Foods or maybe the Co-op
13 ice cubes
either a blender that can crush ice or a snow cone maker
1 single serving of apple juice
1/3 cup sugar
honey
2/3 cup of coconut
2/3 cup of granola
any kind of berries that you want
1 1/2 bananas
