Wildlife Center Hosts Annual Open House May 3-4

WILDLIFE CENTER News:

  • Live snake demonstrations, nature activities and raptor viewing

ESPANOLA – The Wildlife Center, New Mexico’s only wildlife hospital, is holding its free Annual Open House 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 3 and Sunday, May 4. The Open House is a great opportunity to get up close and personal with native New Mexico wildlife.

The Wildlife Center is in its 28th year of providing rehabilitation services to native New Mexico wildlife and educational programming to the human inhabitants of the state.

Save a Life at Local Blood Drive May 1-2

When you plan your errands why not add “save a life” to the list any time between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. Thursday, May 1 or Friday, May 2 by stopping at the First Baptist Church Blood Drive at 2200 Diamond Dr. in Los Alamos.

Make your convenient appointment to give blood at www.UnitedBloodServices.org or call 505.246.1457. With each donation, donors will have access to their personal Wellness Page, which includes cholesterol test results, blood pressure, pulse, weight and other factors important to monitor.

Top honors were awarded to dancers among 12 acts that performed at The Family YMCA’s “Got Dance” Variety Showcase Friday at New Beginnings Fellowship Church.  

Victoria Hypes was named the Judges’ and Peoples’ Choice Individual Winner for her Irish Dance rendition of “I’ll Make a Man Out of You.”

Community Invited to Painting Unveiling of 1st Lt. Thurston 'Turk' Griffith, Jr. May 12

The community is invited to the unveiling of 1st Lt. Thurston “Turk” Griffith, Jr.’s painting that will be hung in the lobby of Griffith Gymnasium at 6 p.m. Monday, May 12. 

Griffith Gym is named after 1st Lt. Thurston “Turk” Griffith, Jr., a 1958 graduate of Los Alamos High School. Griffith was awarded posthumously by General William Westmoreland the Bronze Star Medal for Valor, The Purple Heart, and the Combat Infantryman Badge. 

In December of 1964, Griffith was assigned to the Military Assistance Command in Vietnam.
