Los Alamos County Environmental Services Provides Updated ‘Free Load’ Guidelines Going In Effect April 1

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County Environmental Services Division has released a “Free Load” Guide outlining the administration of residential customer charge-free visits to the Eco Station, included in the Los Alamos County residential services monthly bill.

The updated guidelines will take effect April 1, 2024. The guidelines were developed to provide clarification to residents, as well as the necessary tools to enforce the rule provided in Section 32-18(c)(3) of the County Code of Ordinances.

Environmental Services To Abbreviate Hours On Easter

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County Environmental Services will be open for abbreviated hours Sunday, March 31, in observance of the Easter holiday.

This includes operations at the Eco Station and the Overlook Convenience Center. Both facilities will open at 9 a.m. and close at noon.

LAPS To Host Community Meeting To Discuss White Rock Attendance Zone Changes

LAPS News:

Los Alamos Public Schools invites the public to attend a community meeting to discuss the proposed attendance zone changes in White Rock 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2 at Piñon Elementary School.

The proposed zone changes will help balance the school population sizes at Chamisa Elementary and Piñon Elementary, both of which are undergoing construction of new school buildings. The new schools will accommodate 375 students after construction is complete. Piñon Elementary is scheduled to be completed in February 2025; Chamisa Elementary is scheduled for completion in August of 2025.  Read More

By late 2026, the majority of Los Alamos’s electric power will come from the sun! The County recently inked a 20-year deal to purchase power from a large photovoltaic field and battery bank to be built a few miles northwest of Farmington.

Remarkably, the new solar power will cost LESS than the coal- and gas-based power it replaces.
