McCurdy Charter School (MCS) Seeking Director

McCurdy Charter School (MCS) in Española NM is seeking a Director who will be responsible for embedding our school’s mission into the educational process and school activities, with consideration of students, staff, parents and the community. The primary responsibility is to establish a safe learning environment that recognizes education is rooted in academic excellence and achievement, character development and awareness, and community engagement and leadership.

The successful applicant should address each of the following selection criteria, and DEMONSTRATE how he/she has, and will:

  • Apply leadership and strategic skills to ensure the school’s Charter and mission are fully implemented and sustained.
  • Build and sustain a safe school environment based on responsible and ethical behaviors by students, staff and families in a diverse community.
  • Negotiate and fully implement the annual Performance Framework with the Public Education Commission and evaluated by the Charter School Division/PED.
  • Establish academic and instructional goals that are consistent with the Charter, and manage staff and resources to meet said goals.
  • Administer the coordination and evaluation of the educational program, ensuring that Common Core standards are implemented in the Core Knowledge curriculum and Paideia methodology.
  • Ensure student engagement and growth at all levels of academic progress, while meeting differentiated student developmental and social needs.
  • Align curriculum with state, accreditation and Charter requirements, and seamlessly integrate character development and community involvement into the curriculum.
  • Engage families in the growth, development and performance of their student(s).
  • Apply organizational skills, fiscal knowledge and “best practices” to the transparent management of all school operations.
  • Ensure that all school operations are conducted in accordance with local, state and federal laws, and adopted policies of the MCS Governance Board.
  • Incorporate technology as tools to expand educational opportunities, measure and demonstrate performance and communicate with stakeholders.
  • Provide oversight to all financial operations, including budgetary planning, monitoring and procurement, to ensure compliance with all applicable Federal, Sate and local laws and requirements.
  • Establish and maintain efficient procedures and effective controls for all expenditures of school funds in accordance with adopted budget.
  • Effectively communicate on a regular, periodic basis within the school community to build consensus and collaboration with staff, students, families, stakeholders and the MCS Governance Board.
  • Develop positive working relationships with a wide variety of constituent groups including the community, other educational entities and state/national organizations.
  • Select and mentor staff to encourage passionate and effective, teaching.
  • Ensure all staff are equitably evaluated in accordance with the laws of the state of New Mexico and adopted Board policies.
  • Provide and/or facilitate professional development opportunities for school staff.
  • Proactively inform and advise the Board about programs, practices, activities and issues within the school
  • Develop and promulgate regulations, processes and procedures that implement Board policies.
  • Provide timely advice to the Board on the implication of changes in statues or regulations affecting the school’s programs, and on the need for new and/or revised policies.


  • Valid New Mexico administrative certificate, or capable of obtaining said certification


  • Bilingual
  • Strong Special Education understanding

LACDC Seeks Main Street Executive Director

Job Summary

Los Alamos Commerce and Development Corporation (LACDC) is seeking a dynamic, vision-driven leader as its Main Street Director for its multiple time award-winning Main Street Program.  The MS Director coordinates activities within a central business district revitalization program. The Director is the principal on-site staff person responsible for coordinating all program activities and volunteers, as well as representing the community locally, regionally, and nationally as appropriate. Responsibilities and Duties

  • Coordinate the activity of the MS program, ensuring implementation of work plan items on the National Main Street 4 Point Approach.

  • Manage MS Events Coordinator and Creative District Curator

  • Coordinate and produce the four Main Street events including the signature event ScienceFest

  • Oversee the activities of the Creative District

  • Work closely with the LACDC Executive Director and with other LACDC programs

  • Coordinate with the Los Alamos Main Street Futures Advisory Committee on current topics and events in the Main Street District

  • Manage specified administrative aspects including purchasing, record keeping, budget adherence, report preparation required by the County of Los Alamos and New Mexico State Main Street program and by the National Main Street Center; and assisting with the preparation of reports to contributors.

  • Develop economic development strategies for the Main Street District that capitalizes on the community’s human and economic resources.

  • Become familiar and communicate regularly with all persons and groups directly and indirectly involved in the Main Street district.

  • Develop an annual work plan for implementing a Main Street District revitalization program focused on four areas: design; promotion and marketing; organization/management; and economic vitality.

  • Develop and conduct on-going public awareness and educational programs designed to enhance appreciation of the Main Street District’s assets and to foster an understanding of the program’s goals and objectives. Use speaking engagements, media interviews, and personal appearances to keep the program in the public eye.

  • Encourage a cooperative climate among Main Street District interests and local public officials. Help build strong and productive relationships with appropriate public agencies at the local, regional and national levels. Represent the community to important constituencies at the local and national levels, as appropriate. Speak effectively on the program’s directions and work, mindful of the need to improve local and national economic development policies as they relate to commercial districts. Be willing to work nights, weekends, and evenings as applicable to accomplish the job.

Qualifications and Skills

The Director should have education and/or experience in one or more of the following areas: commercial district management, economic development, community development, public relations, event planning, , business administration, public administration, retailing, volunteer or non-profit administration, architecture, historic preservation, fundraising, and small business development.

The Director must be sensitive to design and preservation issues and must understand the issues confronting Los Alamos Main Street business people, property owners, public agencies, and community organizations. The Director must be entrepreneurial, energetic, imaginative, well organized and capable of functioning effectively in an independent environment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential. Supervisory skills are desirable.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Skills and experience must conform substantially to the above description

  • Undergraduate college degree (may substitute job experience)

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Power Point)

  • Proficiency in Google Drive (shared docs, calendars)

  • Knowledge of InDesign desired
