Posts From The Road: 2023 Year In Review

Morning Flight: We were greeted by some beautiful New Mexico sunrises during our days at Bosque del Apache in January 2023. The noisy cackling of the geese becomes louder as flight time nears during the morning flight out of the refuge. While the birds leave in mass, they seem to do so in an orderly and organized manor. Seen is one group lifting off as the next group of geese prepares for flight. Photo by Gary Warren/ladailypost.com

Fr. Glenn: A World Loved

By Fr. Glenn Jones:

Ah … ’tis Christmas eve. Such a joyful—if hectic—time of year. Cooking, traveling, decorating. Eating. Christmas must keep all the sugar producers in business. If I eat one more biscochito, I’m just gonna’ pop. Oooo … but there’s some fudge! And peppermint bark!! Oh, don’t watch; this ain’t gonna’ be pretty.

Yep … for a great many, everything is just a bit lighter this time of year. Yes, of course there are many undergoing the rigors of sadness and hardship; those things enter into all of our lives, some having greater burdens than others. Thus the great charity—not to mention Read More

While the concept of making resolutions may seem like a modern-day trend, it actually has its roots in ancient civilizations.

The Babylonians, for instance, made promises to their gods at the start of each year in hopes of gaining favor. This practice was also adopted by the Romans, who dedicated the month Read More

County: Let’s Work Together To Simplify Snow And Ice Removal Efforts

Courtesy/LAC

COUNTY News:

When shoveling snow, place shoveled snow on the backside of the sidewalk. Direct the chutes of snow blowers and shovel snow toward lawn areas whenever possible, rather than toward the street. This will provide lawns with additional moisture and prevent that same snow from being plowed back onto surfaces previously cleared by residents.

Place a mixture of sand and salt on sidewalks with persistent ice. In addition, if there is a drainage structure in front of or near the resident’s property, residents can assist crews by clearing it to allow snow melt to reach the Read More

I always have ideas about current events, and there is always lots to write about – children’s issues, women’s struggles, voter issues, for starters.
