Robot Dazzles Crowd Friday Night @ the Bradbury

Curious spectators gathered at the Bradbury Science Museum, Central Avenue and 15th Street, Friday evening to watch a robot lob basketballs during a robotics demonstration as part of Friday Night @ the Bradbury Science Museum. Kiwanis Presents Scholarship to Erin Burr

Kiwanis awarded an educational scholarship to Los Alamos High School graduate Erin Burr Tuesday. From left, Thomas Burr, Lynn Finnegan, Burr, and Kiwanis Second Vice President Karen Kendall. Burr will attend Colorado State University in Fort Collins this fall to study dance and health with a focus on exercise science. She participated in Dance Arts Los Alamos from the age of 3 and has performed in several local Nutcracker performances. Burr also served on the United Way Youth Team and Los Alamos Youth Leadership. Take an Easy Walk to Learn to ID Wildflower

Join Curator Chick Keller of the Pajarito Environmental Education Center's (PEEC) Jemez Mountain Herbarium for an easy walk to learn the names of local wildflowers.  

A plant list will be provided so participants can keep track of what they see.  

Meet at PEEC at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, July 26 to carpool or caravan to the trailhead.

The event is being held to benefit the youth leadership and athletics program of Los

Mountain School Seeks New Principal

As the Aug. 15 start of the new school year draws near, a hiring committee has narrowed down a pool of applicants vying to replace Mountain Elementary School Principal Gerry Washburn.

"We had internal and external candidates apply and we're hoping to bring this search to a close well before school starts," Washburn said Tuesday.

Washburn is a non-voting member of the hiring committee who helped coordinate the process.

He left Mountain June 19 after serving three years as principal to become Coordinator of Human Resources for Los Alamos Public
