Tuesday evening at the Warehouse 21 “creative hub” in Santa Fe, five seasoned entrepreneurs gathered in front of an audience of more than 100 locals to discuss entrepreneurship in the land of enchantment.

The well-attended event (http://fi.co/e/32621) was the preview of Startup SantaFe (StartupSantaFe.com), a public/private partnership between the Founders Institute, City of Santa Fe and Creative Santa Fe to provide access to entrepreneurial resources online and throughout New Mexico.

We heard from Lee Zlotoff, the creator of the television series Macgyver, where we learned that you need to sell a story and about his new ambition to enable customized long-form literary content to be dynamically created for underserved communities; and from Alan Webber who talked about how writing 30-versions of his business plan enabled him to leave Harvard Business School and found his successful magazine; and from Nicholas Seet who discussed the challenges of raising funds and his attempt to solve that with his new crowd financing platform (vip.launchleader.com); from Molly Cernicek who left her job at LabStart to pursue the exciting sport/video mobile app SportXast; and from Shawn Patrick, a successful Silicon Valley entrepreneur who has relocated to Santa Fe and is trying to ignite entrepreneurs here.

The panel discussion was lively, provoking many good questions, and was moderated by Gene Grant, host of KNME program “New Mexico in Focus”.

This spirited, standing-room-only event demonstrated that entrepreneurship is alive and well in the high-desert. As Bonn Macy co-founder of StartupSantaFe.com says, “If you have an idea, this new effort will help you to learn how to move it forward and connect with people that can help make it happen. Please sign up and we will notify you when the Beta is ready!”
