Everyone is invited to a Community Singalong, 7 p.m. Friday, April 5 at Fuller Lodge. Broadway performer DS Magid and the Los Alamos County Library System have teamed up to present an evening of songs from classic Broadway musicals of the ‘40s,‘50s, and ‘60s.
The top vote-getters in the survey to pick the songs are: Oh What a Beautiful Morning, Getting to Know You, June is Bustin’ Out all Over, Seventy-Six Trombones and Oklahoma, More than 20 additional songs will be sung Friday, from several different musicals, such as The King and I, Gypsy, Music Man and Kiss Me Kate.
DS Magid, who has been performing in musicals since she was eight years old, will kick off the evening, introduce the songs, and keep things rolling for the approximately 90-minute program. Piano accompaniment will be provided by Gretchen Anstutz, while Jeff Favorite has volunteered to lead. The Singalong will be fun for everyone, with no solos, no rehearsals and no special skills needed.
Lyrics will be projected on a screen but in keeping with the “no special skills” theme, sight-reading is not required.
The April 5 Singalong kicks off a busy month of library programs, as the library celebrates National Library Week, National Poetry Month and National Library Workers Day. There will be a special celebration Saturday, April 6 to celebrate the end of the construction at Mesa Public Library and to thank the public for its support during that disruptive process.
The public is invited to sign up on the Facebook event “Singalong with Your Favorite Classic Broadway Tunes” for updates and more information.
