Voices Of Los Alamos Meets Monday, Nov. 27

Voices of Los Alamos will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 27 at the Unitarian Church. 

Los Alamos County Department of Public Utilities Manager Tim Glasco, Deputy Utilities Manager James Alarid and Technical Program Manager Danny Katzman will discuss the chromium plume issue. They will present the current action plan to pump out, treat and then inject the water back into the ground. 

The meeting will also feature updates on the PED science standards as well as health and history school standards. Additionally, updates on school board issues, and the upcoming Los Alamos County Council's agenda item on Dec. 5 regarding the recreation capital improvement projects. 

In another matter, the League of Women Voters of New Mexico is sponsoring its annual workshop, “Effective Citizen Advocacy at the Legislature,” 9:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, Dec. 9  at the New Mexico State Capitol, Room 322 (enter on the East side only). Learn tips from legislators and a professional lobbyist on how to interact with legislators, speak at hearings, and advocate for your cause. 

Cristina Olds, Becky Oertel, and Anagha Dandekar will speak at the League of Women Voters' Lunch With a Leader  at 11:30 a.m. Dec. 12 at Mesa Public Library about the mission of Voices of Los Alamos, how the organization formed, and solicit ideas for future meeting speakers and topics. 

NM Indivisible Congress comprised of NM chapters met Nov. 4 (11 represented) in Truth or Consequences; wrote mission and vision statements, build solidarity among groups, organize, strategize for resistance to current admin and how to support progressive candidates. They are doing a leadership training Jan. 19-21 in Truth or Consequences, if anyone is interested in going on behalf of Voices.

Voices of Los Alamos will not meet in December but will reconvene Jan. 22.
