TOTH News:

Purchasing tickets in advance is strongly encouraged for the High Tea and Fashion Show because this event has sold out the last two years.

The House of Hope ladies’ mission team and the co-ed Trinity Builders team warmly invite the community to join them again this year for a sumptuous tea, followed by a stylish fashion show.

The afternoon’s activities are intended to raise funds for house-building mission trips to Juárez, Mexico.

This year’s event will start at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 18, in Kelly Hall at Trinity on the Hill Episcopal Church, 3900 Trinity Dr.

Preparations have been underway for some months, such as menu planning, gathering special table settings and attractive tea pots, selecting clothing, and choosing models.

Guests will be seated by a hostess at beautifully decorated tables, adorned with unique place settings and fresh flowers. Social hats are encouraged and will certainly generate some lively conversation as friends chat and make new acquaintances at round tables of eight settings each.

The tea will include a wide variety of high-quality sweet and savory treats that use only the best tried and tested recipes.

All food items will be handmade from scratch by team members and friends and will offer a feast for the eyes, as well as the palate. Cups of tea will be served from “bottomless” tea pots and will include black tea and a variety of herbal and flavored teas.

To showcase the top-quality items on sale at Shop on the Corner (Trinity on the Hill’s thrift store), the fashion show that follows the tea will feature a wide range of stylish and affordable fashions, all provided from the thrift store’s inventory.

All items modeled will be on sale that day at very reasonable prices and will include many famous name brands, such as J. Jill, Coldwater Creek, and Neiman Marcus.

The stunning models include ladies and gentlemen from the congregation at Trinity on the Hill (two of whom are ordained priests) and friends from beyond the church community.

A silent auction of gift baskets will also be held during the afternoon. The House of Hope and Trinity Builders teams are keen to repeat the success of the last two years’ events and to be able to help fund their house-building trips this fall.

In addition to the women-only house build that has taken place every Columbus Day weekend since 2005, a second trip will follow in November and will be open to anyone over the age of 13.

It is hoped that this additional build will encourage families to travel to Juárez to build a house together.

House of Hope is a ladies-only construction team comprising members from several churches in the Los Alamos/White Rock area (and further afield) who have committed their time and talents over the past seven years to building homes for very needy families in Juárez, Mexico.

These families would otherwise have little hope of permanent, stable housing. The funds raised help pay for the construction materials for the houses and for house-warming gifts for the families. More information and pictures can be found at www.houseofhope women.org.

Trinity Builders is a co-ed team formed in 2011 with the aim of encouraging youth and families to share the mission work and rewarding experience of providing homes for families in Mexico.

Tickets for the High Tea and Fashion Show are on sale now and are priced at $25 for adults and $10 for children under 10.

Guests are encouraged to buy tickets in advance; seating is limited, and this event sells out quickly. For more information, please call the church office at 662-5107.
