Russian and Greek Treats Top Holiday Sale

Saint Dimitri Orthodox Church is holding its 15th annual Holiday Bake Sale 1-3 p.m., Dec. 22. This sweet sale is a popular fixture of the holiday season in Los Alamos. 

The congregation bakes Greek and Russian cookies and pastries, including baklava, Russian tea cakes and more.  

Each box contains 34-36 different sweets. Also included is a sample of Russian Kusmi tea. Everything is presented in a nice pastry style box that is suitable for gift giving. One box is $23.95, or $21.95 per box with orders of four or more.

IHM Open for Teens Grieving Tyler Van Anne's Passing

The John Paul the Great Center (the Youth Office) at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church will be open all day for any and all teens.

There are snacks, hot chocolate, and blankets to curl up in, as well as youth leaders and deacons available if anyone needs to talk.

Father John Calbom is the guest priest visiting Saint Dimitri Orthodox Church where he will serve Divine Liturgy Sunday morning, Dec 8.

Rev. Calbom, M.A., is an inspirational speaker, corporate chaplain, consultant, certified HeartMath provider, and a Russian Orthodox (ROCOR) priest with degrees in theology and psychology. He was vice president of St. Luke Medical Center and worked as a behavioral medicine therapist with cancer patients in their complementary and adjunctive cancer care treatment program.

Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church in Los Alamos has a radio ministry for the purpose of teaching the listener about Jesus the Redeemer.

Each week there are two different shows called "Redeemer Theological Academy Lectures" and "Christ in the Old Testament."

On these shows, Pastor Brian Kachelmeier of Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church teaches about the person and work of Christ from the Bible. Topics include the following: Trinity, Christology, the Holy Spirit, the written Scriptures, vocation and others.

Christmas Bazaar for Children Saturday

TOTH news:

Trinity on the Hill Episcopal Church, 3900 Trinity Dr., will hold its annual Children’s Christmas Bazaar 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Dec. 7 in Kelly Hall. 

The Bazaar is held for children kindergarten through 6th grade to shop for their family and friends. “Elves” are available to help children shop and free gift wrapping is available. The best part of the Bazaar is that parents are not allowed in Kelly Hall. Parents are banished to a café style atmosphere where coffee and treats are served.

Gift items are priced very reasonably

Ladies Auxiliary Hosts Christmas Arts and Crafts Fair

The Ladies Auxiliary of Los Alamos is sponsoring a Christmas Arts and Crafts Fair to raise money for donations to needy families, a Santa Fe soup kitchen and a state orphanage. 

The fair is 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 7 at the Knights of Columbus Hall. There are a variety of vendors signed up with many different items to sell. 

This will be a great opportunity for some additional Christmas shopping. The Ladies Auxiliary will also have a hot breakfast and lunch available for all the hungry shoppers.

Shop on the Corner Offers Christmas Bargains

The annual Shop on the Corner Christmas Sale will offer holiday bargains on Wednesday, Dec. 4. The thrift shop sale is 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and includes both brand new and gently used  items, which the volunteers set aside all year. 

Holiday decorations, festive and new clothing, toys and games, books and music, linens, china and glassware, jewelry, leather goods, and gifts are some of the items that will attract scores of bargain hunters, collectors, and hobbyists.
