Pajarito Mountain Delays Opening To Dec. 16

on November 18, 2017 - 8:30am

SKI News:

Unseasonably warm temperatures and a dry fall have delayed the opening dates for ski areas across the west and officials at Pajarito Mountain announced they also are delaying the ski area’s opening, which was originally scheduled for Friday, Nov. 24. The mountain is now scheduled to open Saturday, Dec.16.

“Due to this abnormal weather pattern of warm temperatures and dry weather, we’ve made the difficult decision to delay Pajarito’s opening, but are confident that we can open Dec. 16,” said Pajarito Mountain General Manager Tom Long. “Our team is committed to providing the best early season conditions possible, and that means we need to be a little more patient for ski season to start this year.”

Pajarito’s snowmaking infrastructure is ready and strategically placed on the mountain. Mountain crews are standing by and will be ready to make snow when conditions allow.

“Everyone at Pajarito is excited to kick off ski season and we are continuing to prepare for opening day,” Long said. “Our crews are ready to make snow as soon as Mother Nature cooperates.”

New this season!  Pajarito is replacing the old Mitey Mite with a new Magic Carpet, which provides beginners an easier way to learn the sport. Installation of the new lift is expected to be completed by early December. The ski area is also expanding its beginner terrain, doubling the teaching area for beginners.

“These improvements are a great addition to Pajarito’s ski and snowboard school program,” Long said. “By increasing our beginner teaching area and offering a new user-friendly beginner lift, we’ll be able to host more groups and create new skiers and snowboarders in New Mexico.”

Pajarito will, once again, offer a more consistent operating schedule of Wednesdays through Sundays. The mountain also plans to be open daily over the holiday season, plus an extended schedule in March.
