ANTOINETTE (TONI) GROOSS Aug. 3, 1926 Jan. 10, 2018

Antoinette (Toni) Grooss died January 10, 2018 at age 91 in Los Alamos.

Toni was born August 3,1926 in Chicago, Illinois. Her parents were Frank A. Grooss and Frances Breyer Grooss. Toni graduated from Immaculata High School in Chicago and earned a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.

Following graduation from Northwestern, Toni taught elementary school in the Chicago area. In 1952, Toni began teaching in the Los Alamos schools where she continued as an elementary teacher, first in Los Alamos and then in White Rock, until she retired in 1985.

Toni bought her first horse, a jumper named Yankee, when she was a young teenager in Chicago. She and Yankee competed in Chicago area shows until she moved to Los Alamos. Once here, she bought a quarter horse mare she named Mouse and began exploring the canyons of the Pajarito plateau, she and Mouse always being accompanied by Toni’s Dalmatians.

Toni’s funeral Mass will be celebrated at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Los Alamos at 10:00 AM on Friday, January 19. Burial will occur in Chicago at a later date.
