Los Luceros Historic Site Open Third Sunday Of Month Through Fall

ALCALDE From ancient pueblo settlements to Spanish colonial haciendas, Los Luceros Historic Property has provided a bountiful life for people through the centuries.
 
This summer, the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs’ Historic Sites division invites you and your family to enjoy the Los Luceros Historic property.
 
“New Mexican’s are invited to bring a picnic to enjoy on the banks of the Río Grande or under the shade of the historic apple orchard,’ Patrick Moore, Director of New Mexico Historic Sites said. “Activities and presentations held on these five summer Sundays will focus on nature and the culture of New Mexico and offer rare access to one of New Mexico’s most enchanting properties.”
 
Admission to the Cultura y Naturaleza (Culture and Nature) series of events at Los Luceros will be free. The events occur on the third Sunday of the month from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Los Luceros in Alcade. Each date will focus on a different aspect of Los Luceros’ storied history and significance in New Mexico.
 
SUNDAY, MAY 20: Ecology of the Rio Grande

1:00pm - Bird walk by area birder Joe Fitzgibbon
2:00pm - Tour of Casa Grande
3:00pm - Gates close
 
SUNDAY, JUNE 17: Healing on the Rio Grande
11:00am - Gates open
11:30am - Tour of the Capilla (Chapel)
1:00pm – Curanderismo presentation by Dr. Eliseo "Cheo" Torres
2:00pm - Tour of Casa Grande
3:00pm - Gates close
 
Bonus Father’s Day Activity: Casey Harthorn of New Mexico Game & Fish will offer a family fishing workshop along the river. Casey brings all the equipment and families can learn how to fish as well as learning about fish biology. Children under age 12 do not need a fishing license.
 
SUNDAY, JULY 15: Water Brings Life

11:30am - Tour of the fields and acequias of Los Luceros
1:00pm - New Mexico Acequia Association will offer a family activity about the acequia.
2:00pm - Tour of Casa Grande

SUNDAY, AUGUST 19: Spanish Colonial Life
