The Los Alamos Commerce and Development Corporation (LACDC) announced today Lauren McDaniel, LACDC employee and Director of projectY cowork Los Alamos, is the new Los Alamos Main Street Director.

As Main Street director, McDaniel will continue to oversee projectY cowork and a new full-time Community & Marketing Manager, in addition to the Creative District.

McDaniel first joined LACDC in 2016 as director of projectY cowork, whose mission is to strengthen the local economy by providing convenient and affordable work spaces for entrepreneurs, remote workers, freelancers and others. Since its inception in June 2016, projectY has hosted more than 200 entrepreneurial events attracting more than 2,500 individuals from Northern New Mexico.

“Los Alamos Main Street is already an award-winning district in New Mexico, and I look forward to continuing the dynamic community events and supporting and growing our local businesses that bring a community identity, jobs and so much heart to our special town,” McDaniel said. “My experiences starting and running projectY cowork have given me unique perspectives and ideas for ways to enhance Main Street and the Creative District for locals and visitors alike.”

Los Alamos Main Street collaborates with local businesses and community leaders to provide community activities, such as the award-winning Los Alamos ScienceFest, the Fair and Rodeo Parade, Trick-or-Treat on Main Street and the WinterFest Parade. It also focuses on the town’s connection to history and science, supports the local business community, and provides locals and visitors a special place to enjoy the beauty of Los Alamos.

In 2016, Los Alamos Main Street was selected as a “One to Watch” during the Great American Main Street Awards, chosen by the National Main Street Center, a subsidiary of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Los Alamos was recognized for being a neighborhood making progress toward revitalizing its downtown district.

McDaniel will formally be assuming job responsibilities for Los Alamos Main Street director as of April 9.
