BUSINESS News:

Los Alamos’s State Rep. Stephanie Garcia Richard and Alan Webber, founder of Fast Company Magazine and nationally recognized economic development authority, recently visited with several Los Alamos based tech start-up companies to learn about how to support tech transfer from Los Alamos National Laboratory and growing high tech entrepreneurism in Los Alamos and New Mexico.

In an Aug. 11 visit to UbiQD, Garcia Richard and Webber discussed with company founder and CEO Hunter McDaniel the development of quantum dot technology and steps to bring this new product to market.

Garcia Richard and Webber also visited with Rick Nebel, founder of Tibbar Plasma Technologies, a Los Alamos company developing a plasma based transformer, which has the potential to revolutionize the method in which electricity is delivered.

Garcia Richard and Webber discussed the need to change the narrative of entrepreneurism in New Mexico.

“We have success stories of entrepreneurs here that would rival those in Silicon Valley, but they are not being told,” Webber said, following the tours. Garcia Richard added, “We have to help tell these local success stories so as to draw the attention of capital and industry that will help create a climate to grow them and other tech based businesses right here.”
