Del Norte Credit Union Announces 2016 DNCU Scholarship Winners

  • Seven New Mexico students win $1,000 for higher education

SANTA FE — Del Norte Credit Union, northern New Mexico’s hometown financial co‐op, has announced the winners of the DNCU Scholarship program for 2016. The seven winners will receive $1,000 each toward the higher education program in which they are enrolled in the fall of 2016. 

DNCU Scholarship winners for 2016:

  • Nicholas Koskelo – Los Alamos High School, Los Alamos;
  • Shania Martinez – Española Valley High School, Española;
  • Victoria Lovato – Mesa Visa High School, Ojo Caliente;
  • Kyana Montoya – Pojoaque Valley High School, Pojoaque;
  • Carly Bonwell – Academy for Technology and Classics, Santa Fe;
  • Mabel Lujan – Santa Fe High School, Santa Fe; and
  • Elena Romero – St. Michael’s High School, Santa Fe.

“While financial literacy is a core DNCU philosophy, education in all its dimensions is just as important. Our DNCU Scholarship program demonstrates our commitment to supporting young people in New Mexico as they make meaningful advances toward a brighter future,” said Chuck Valenti, president and CEO of Del Norte Credit Union.

DNCU’s Scholarship Award is a $1,000 award given to members in good standing who are in pursuit of higher education at any college, university, or vocational school.

“I plan to use these funds to help pay for tuition at a top university where I can study chemistry or engineering or both. This scholarship means a lot to me. It has given me more confidence in myself to succeed,” said scholarship winner Nicholas Koskelo of Los Alamos High School.

Winners are chosen based on their academic record work experience, statement of goals, and demonstrated leadership in their schools and communities. Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship Management Services, a division of Scholarship America.
