on September 13, 2019 - 11:14am

COUNTY News:

The Public Works/Traffic Division provides the latest updates on the following projects:

**Water Shut-Off Near NM502 Roundabout Project Next Wednesday Morning**

Weather permitting, water will temporarily be shut off for apartments and condominiums on Arroyo Lane 8 a.m. to  noon Wednesday, Sep. 18. Construction crews will be tying this neighborhood into the new water system in support of the N.M. 502 roundabout project.

**SLOW DOWN IN & NEAR SCHOOL ZONES**

Recently the County has received several complaints of speeding vehicles in or near School zones when children are walking on their way to/from school. This is an important public safety issue! Please, keep our children safe and slow down in these areas and neighborhoods bordering school zones.

Public Works/Traffic Division projects:

Diamond Drive Paving

Construction is wrapping up. The contractor will be finishing the paving at the San Ildefonso Roundabout over the weekend and early next week if needed. Final striping and marking of Diamond Dr is underway. Placement of concrete utility collars throughout Diamond Drive continues; motorists should expect lane closures for this activity. A portion of sidewalk south of Arkansas street on the west side of Diamond near the Mountain Elementary School access point will be replaced, resulting in a sidewalk closure and a driving lane closure. Pedestrians will be detoured to the east sidewalk.

Drivers are asked to be patient and follow posted speeds. Work will continue Monday through Friday next week. The project is anticipated to be completed on Sept. 27.

White Rock Crack Sealing Project Begins Monday

On Monday, GM Emulsion will be crack sealing roads beginning on Rover Blvd at N.M. 4 and continuing toward Grand Canyon Drive. They will continue down Grand Canyon Dr. starting at N.M. 4 to Meadow Lane. They will also work on Bryce Avenue, starting at Rover Blvd to Meadow Lane. Crews will be working 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. The contractor will set up flagging operations to allow traffic flow. Weather permitting, work should be completed by Sept. 30. The contractor will then return in mid-October to fog seal the same locations. Those residences and businesses impacted by the crack sealing work will receive information with daily schedules, coordination instructions and contact information as the project proceeds through White Rock.

Curb/No parking zone/parking lot striping - locations vary

Accustripe will continue striping curbs-no parking zones and parking lots throughout the County. Drivers and pedestrians are urged to follow all traffic control devices and maintain a safe distance from the painting equipment. Weather permitting, the project should be completed by Sept. 25.

Roads, Sidewalk, Curb/Gutter work near Sioux, Alamo & Tsankawi Streets

Crews continue milling the shoulder on both sides of San Ildefonso Road between Sioux and Alamo. Flagging operations are in place.

In addition, GM Emulsion will be replacing sidewalks, curb, gutter and a drive pad on the south side of Alamo Road between San Ildefonso Road and Tsankawi Street. Pedestrians are urged to follow all traffic control signs.

Motorists are urged to slow down and watch for pedestrian traffic within the work zones.

Other road construction projects:

NM502 Roundabout and Road Reconstruction (NMDOT project)

See special water shut off alert above for Wednesday, Sept. 18. Otherwise, no change from last week's report. East-bound NM502 traffic detours onto 4th Street and Central Avenue. After a full stop, motorists turn right (east) and travel through the construction zone to continue east-bound out of Los Alamos on N.M. 502. West-bound NM502 traffic entering Los Alamos and approaching the roundabout construction zone detours onto Central Avenue then west to Knecht Street then left to return to Trinity Drive. There is only one lane of traffic in each direction on Central Avenue.

Project hours are 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Please slow down, use caution and expect delays in this area, especially during peak commute times.

Traffic advisories from NMDOT are available on www.nmroads.com and motorists are asked to check the site for updates on this project as it proceeds.

TA-21 Clean Up Project - DP Road (N3B project):

No change from last week's report. Clean-up work on the LANL TA-21 Site at the far eastern end of DP Road continues. Large trucks carrying away demolition debris containers will be exiting DP Rd at an average of approximately three trucks per day. Motorists are asked to be alert for trucks exiting; use caution when entering or exiting DP Road, as this area is near the NM502 Road Reconstruction project.

Oppenheimer Road Excavation

Macron Excavating, Inc continues excavating a section of road located near 557 Oppenheimer with a traffic lane shift in this area. The project is anticipated to wrap up by Tuesday. Motorists are urged to drive slowly through this work zone and watch for pedestrians.
