PEEC News:

Hear about Bill Geist’s adventures in the Alps at the October Los Alamos Mountaineers meeting about 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22.

The Mountaineers’ meeting begins at 7 p.m. and covers information about upcoming outings. This event is free to attend and open to the public.

In August 2019, Geist and his teammate Jason Halladay participated in a 180-mile team run with a cumulative elevation gain of 80,000 feet. The race, called the Petit Trotte à Léon (PTL), traveled around Mont Blanc through the Alps of France, Italy and Switzerland.

The event took the duo six days to complete and took them over numerous high mountain passes, along via ferratas, to the mountain Refugios and across glaciers. All of which have amazing views of Mont Blanc and many other high peaks of the Alps.

They experienced some of the best features that the Alps can offer along the PTL course. During this experience, Geist was reminded of the many other adventures he had in Europe when he and Rebecca Stevens lived in Vienna, Austria for three years while working at the International Atomic Energy Agency.

Vienna allowed for easy weekend exploration of the peaks, via ferratas and everything else the Austrian and Italian Alps have to offer. At this presentation, Geist will describe the PTL run interspersed with some of the many adventures he had while living in Europe.
