2018 Knights Of Columbus Local Free Throw Results

Five boys and two girls ages 9 to 14, were named local champions of the 2018 Knights of Columbus Local Free Throw Championship.
 
Each participant was allowed 15 free throw attempts in the contest. Ties were settled by successive rounds of five free throws per contestant until a winner emerged. Sacred Heart Council #3137 in Los Alamos sponsored the local competition Sunday, Jan. 28 in Griffith Gymnasium at Los Alamos High School.
 
All youngsters ages 9 to 14 were eligible to participate. Taelin Stanfield was crowned 9-year-old champion while Maddox Martines won the 10-year-old division. Meredith Brown and Lukas Ulibarri (2017 10-year state champion), were awarded the 11-year-old championship.
 
The 12-year-old champions were Mika Stanfield and Abraham Sanchez. The final championship trophy was awarded to 13-year-old Ryan Aldaz.
 
Each champion will now advance to compete in the district free throw competition, which is at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24 at Griffith Gym with an eye towards moving on to the state championships which will be help in March at Bernalillo High School (date/time TBD).
 
The Knights of Columbus Council #3137 would like to recognize all runner-up contestants: Joshua Matteson (9-year-old), 2017 9-year-old state champion Benjamin Sanchez (10), Grafton Urbatsch (11), Kimberly Prada (12) and Jacob Ulibarri (12).
 
Finally, the Knights of Columbus would like to thank everyone who participated in this year's local competition. And special thanks to Los Alamos Public Schools for the use of Griffith Gymnasium.
