‘The Pain Behind The Badge’ Awards Scholarship To Autumn Sanchez For Outstanding Community Service

Autumn Sanchez, daughter of Joy Sanchez and the late Mark Sanchez, was the recipient of a scholarship presented by an organization called 'The Pain Behind the Badge' in recognition of her outstanding community service and in memory of her father's law enforcement career before his death in May 2011. Autumn graduated from New Mexico Virtual Academy as an honor student in May of 2017 with a 4.0 GPA. She is a student at Northern New Mexico College, seeking a degree in Biology to be able to go on to Veterinary School in Colorado. The scholarship and memorial badge were presented to Sanchez by Chaplain Jose Villegas. Also in attendance at the ceremony were Espanola Police Chief Raymond Romero, Sheriff James Lujan,  as well as deputies and officers from Rio Arriba Sheriff's Department and Espanola Police Department. Courtesy photo
