Los Alamos County Gets Its Hands Dirty With New Food Compost Program

It’s time to get dirty! Los Alamos County Council green lit the municipal-wide food composting in September and County staff are working to move the project along.

The projected start date for the food compost program is approximately two years.

County Sustainability Manager Angelica Gurule gave an update on the project to the Los Alamos Daily Post Tuesday afternoon.

NMDOT Cautions Motorists Of Extreme Weather Causing Road Closures And Severe Driving Conditions

SANTA FE — The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) warns of severe weather and advises motorists to drive cautiously.

According to the National Weather Service, widespread high winds will impact most of New Mexico today. Gusts of 50 to 70 mph are expected creating areas of blowing dust on the eastern plains and blowing snow in the northern and western mountains.

Visibility may be limited. Peak gusts of 80+ mph will be possible over the Sacramento Mountains.

Water rights remain fightin’ words in New Mexico.

A bill by Rep. Matthew McQueen, D-Galisteo, that would have allowed the State Engineer’s Office to obtain water rights through forfeiture from those who hadn’t exercised them in 10 years, was shot down by an 8-0 vote Tuesday in the House Agriculture, Acequias and Water Resources Committee.
