Basketball Star Alex Kirk Dines With Auction Winners

Pro basketball star Alex Kirk is the celebrity guest at a lunch today at the Blue Window Bistro. Los Alamos County Councilor James Chrobocinski and his wife Jackie purchased the luncheon during an auction at this year's Rotary Crab Fest fundraiser. The Chrobocinski's son JJ and Grandfather Jim Bramble joined the group for lunch. Kirk posed for a photo with JJ in front of the Blue Window. Blue Window owner Melissa Paternoster generously donated the lunch. ‘We had a great time and were incredibly impressed with everything Alex has accomplished and is working on,’ Councilor Chrobocinski said.

My wife and I plus another couple ate at Don Villa’s Restaurant in White Rock last Thursday evening. 
 
I had the Green Chile Chicken Enchilada Plate, my wife had the Corn Beef Rubin, and the other couple feasted on the Carne Adovada Plate and the Chimichanga. 
 
All four meals were very good and the service was excellent. I am happy to say that “White Rock is the destination for eating!”

Kiwanis Hosts Free Pancake Breakfast Saturday

The Los Alamos Kiwanis Club is hosting a free Pancake Breakfast for all ages 7-11 a.m. Saturday, May 21 at the Betty Ehart Senior Center. The menu includes buttermilk pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, orange juice, milk and coffee.

Kiwanis members have been flipping pancakes for decades and look forward to serving community members. Any donation will be accepted and used for Kiwanis community projects such as Senior Appreciation Night and the 4th of July Fireworks.

Signs have been posted on the doors of High Elevation this morning declaring notice that the landlord C1C2 Investments, LLC has taken possession of the restaurant. Owner Brian Appell could not be reached for comment.

Appell opened the eatery last October at 1789 Central Ave. in downtown Los Alamos.

Anasazi Fields Winery and Secret City Kitchen are teaming up once again to bring Flight Night  to the community starting at 5 p.m., Friday, April 29 at UnQuarked, The Wine Room.
 
Jeremy Varela from Secret City is preparing food sample trays: roasted maple paprika spiced nut medley, brie with balsamic reduction, blackened chicken with a chipotle cream smear, and cayenne salted dark chocolate bark. 
 
Jim Fish, winemaker from Anasazi Fields, will lead attendees through a pairing of their wines with these dishes.
 
Cost is $12 per person.

After almost two years running the Geronimo kitchen as chef de cuisine and being awarded Open Table’s Top 100 Restaurants in America through his culinary talent, Cruz will take over from acclaimed Chef Eric DiStefano, who sadly passed away in February.

New Sign Installed At Los Alamos Golf Course

A new sign was installed last week in front of the Los Alamos Golf Course on Diamond Drive and features the Cottonwood on the Greens restaurant. Golf membership is not required to dine at the restaurant, which is open to the public 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Sunday. Breakfast is served 9-11 a.m., lunch is 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and dinner is 5-8 p.m. Monday through Saturday. A brunch buffet is served 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday. The bar is open 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday. Seattle’s Best Coffee is served 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Sunday.

Don Villa’s Restaurant opens for business at 6 a.m., Monday on Sherwood Boulevard in White Rock.

Owner Geronimo Villa named the eatery in honor of his great grandfather Don Geronimo Villa. He was the patriarch of the family and now that position has fallen to Villa.

Community members packed into the Los Alamos Sheriff's Posse Lodge Sunday for a Cowboy Breakfast. 

Members of the Los Alamos Sheriff's Posse want to thank the community for coming back to support them following a kitchen renovation.

Proceeds from this breakfast will be given to graduating seniors from the Los Alamos High School from Sheriff Marco Lucer and the New Mexico Sheriff's Association.

With our warm weather this winter it’s not uncommon to catch a whiff of dinner cooking on a barbeque grill somewhere in your neighborhood. The aroma conjures up spending time in the yard with family and friends while eating potato salad, coleslaw and corn on the cob. This summer keep your friends and families safe by following a few basic barbeque safety rules. 

Proper barbeque safety begins with an annual inspection of the grill. Clear the grill of any debris and grease.
