Del Norte Credit Union, northern New Mexico’s hometown financial co‐op, provided warm holiday meals to many of the area’s on‐duty firefighters Thursday. Delicious turkey meals with all
the trimmings, purchased through an area supermarket as well as a local restaurant, fed five Los Alamos County fire stations. seven Santa Fe City fire stations, as well as Española Fire Rescue.

“This is our way to help make the day a little brighter for these public servants who keep our communities safe, especially since many of them will miss their family meals,” DNCU President/CEO Chuck Valenti,

Nov. 26 is Small Business Saturday and an opportunity for the community to show its support by visiting and shopping at local businesses.

The year was 2005. This little girl, Mackenzie, daughter of Ruby Alexander (owner of Ruby K’s Bagel Café), was just 6 years old. Los Alamos did not yet have a bagel shop.

Fast forward nearly 12 years to 2016 and one can see a lot has changed! This same little girl has grown into a nearly 6’2” young lady and is now a senior at Los Alamos High School.

First, Happy Thanksgiving to everyone.  And with it being turkey day I thought I would do an article on something I haven’t done personally, but is apparently quite popular.
 
One of the most popular ways of preparing that Thanksgiving or Christmas turkey is deep-frying.  Unfortunately it is also one of the fastest growing causes of home fires resulting in millions of dollars in damage and numerous injuries and deaths. But if it’s done correctly and safely, a deep-fried turkey can be a delicious part of your holiday feast.

“We moved to Los Alamos to buy the business almost two years ago now,” Lyle said.

Secret City Kitchen Launches Food Service At UNM-LA

It has been about three years since the aroma of fresh coffee and food filled the Student Center on the UNM-Los Alamos campus.

This year, the decision was made to bring a grab-and-go food service to campus based on requests from students, faculty and staff. After considering several proposals, Jeremy Varela and his local Secret City Kitchen business were selected to serve the campus.

“One of our goals is to have a ‘vibrant campus environment,’ UNM-LA CEO Dr. Cindy Rooney said.

The United Way Youth Team is hosting High Tea On The Hill is 1-2:30 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 16, in the lobby at Los Alamos High School at 1300 Diamond Dr. This event is a great chance for tea lovers in the community to get together and talk about all things tea.
 
This year's theme is “mad hatter”, so the community is invited to wear their best or silliest tea hat, and the two attendees with the best hats will receive a teapot that has been decorated by the National Art Honors Society at Los Alamos High School.
