DPU Crews To Turn Power Off At Several Homes On Barranca Road To Repair Sparking Power Line

COUNTY News:

Electric crews from the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities will need to bring power down for an isolated section of Barranca Road due to a sparking power line.

The outage should affect about six houses. The estimated restoration time in unknown. Wind may play a factor in determining when it is safe to bring the power back up.

Additionally, power is out at the Pajarito Mountain Ski Hill and will not be restored before the morning. Read More

Wildfire Ignites In Sierra De Los Pinos In The Jemez!

A wildfire ignited late this afternoon in the Sierra De Los Pinos subdivision off N.M. 4 in the Jemez Mountains. Los Alamos County Deputy Fire Chief Steve Dawald told the Los Alamos Daily Post moments ago that it appears a full evacuation is underway. Also there are unconfirmed reports of a structure fire in the area of Sierra de Los Pinos. The National Weather Service forecasts elevated to extreme fire weather conditions for Friday, April 22, across the State of New Mexico.

High winds in the Los Alamos area are expected to peak at around 50 miles per hour between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. This coupled with very low humidity, above-average temperatures and unstable conditions increase the risk of wildfires that can spread rapidly. With kraft gift bags full of conservation items, the CommuniTREE in the Los Alamos County Municipal Building has giveaways for all ages right now.

Masks Now Optional On Atomic City Transit Buses

COUNTY News:

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has announced the order requiring masks and face coverings on public transportation conveyances and at transportation hubs is no longer in effect.

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) along with Federal Transportation Administration (FTA) also have lifted any required mask or face covering orders.

Therefore, effective immediately, Atomic City Transit will abide by the directive and allow customers and operators the option to utilize a mask or face covering on Atomic City Transit bus service.

Streetlight Repair On San Ildefonso Road April 21

COUNTY News:

Crews will be replacing a knocked down streetlight on San Ildefonso Road south between Camino Redondo and the roundabout. The streetlight is situated on the northeast side of San Ildefonso Road.

Crews will close the shoulder and bike lane temporarily 9 a.m. to noon Thursday, April 21.
