Michelle Lujan Grisham signed an executive order today directing executive state departments to begin collecting voluntary self-identification information pertaining to sexual orientation and gender identity, an advance long-sought by LGBTQ+ advocates that will provide the state with data to improve the provisions of service to a traditionally underserved population.

New Mexico State Police To Conduct Proactive Crime Suppression & Traffic Operations In Albuquerque Metro Area

ALBUQUERQUE – The New Mexico State Police (NMSP) will begin proactive crime suppression and traffic enforcement operations Tuesday, Aug. 17, in the Albuquerque Metro area.

Approximately 35 NMSP officers are assigned to the three week long Albuquerque operation. Officers will direct their efforts toward criminal activity and aggressive driving in areas of concern as relayed to the Department by the Albuquerque Police Department.

FBI: Man From Loving Charged With Transporting Illegal Aliens, Kidnapping And Harboring Faces Up To Life In Prison

FBI News: 

ALBUQUERQUE — Eddie Sanchez, 43, of Loving made an initial appearance Aug. 10 in Federal Court on charges of kidnapping, transporting an illegal alien, and harboring an illegal alien.

Sanchez remains in custody pending a detention hearing.

According to a criminal complaint, around December of 2019, Sanchez allegedly began communicating with a victim by telephone and Facebook, and the two began a long-distance relationship.

After several months, Sanchez allegedly informed the victim that he had arranged for her to be smuggled into the United States illegally.

Traffic Alert: Main Hill Road Closed For Rockfall Mitigation

Traffic Alert:

Beginning today, N.M. 502 (Main Hill Road) will be closed along a 2-mile stretch for approximately 10 days.

During this time, New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) crews will mitigate a rockfall hazard along the roadway.

Main Hill Road Closure Schedule:

  • 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday; and
  • 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

SANTA FE — New Mexico state health officials announced 798 additional COVID-19 cases Friday.

Los Alamos County reports 2 new cases bringing the total to 582 people who have tested positive for COVID-19. (County totals are subject to change upon further investigation and determination of residency of individuals positive for COVID-19.)

This update includes 5 new deaths Friday in New Mexico related to COVID-19.

Per the state Department of Health, the most recent cases are:

New Mexico Vaccination Events For Week Ending Aug. 21

SANTA FE — COVID-19 vaccines are available at 19 Mobile Vaccination School Events for the week ending Aug. 21.

Anyone can get a COVID-19 vaccine at these events, although the focus is on eligible students.

Those under age 18 need to provide a signed consent form, but parents do not have to be present for student vaccination.

Schools may request an on-site vaccination event through this Department of Health webform.

Schools should have at least 25 eligible people, who can include family and community members.
