Firefighters Begin Burnout Ops As Medio Fire Hits 2,432 Acres

Firefighters are planning to begin burnout operations today along the southern, western, and northern edges of the Medio Fire, which has burned 2,432 acres off the Rio en Medio Trail on the Española Ranger District of the Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) between the Rio Nambe and the Rio en Medio, approximately 2 miles north of the Village of Rio en Medio, 2 miles east/southeast of Nambe Reservoir and 5 miles north/northwest of the Santa Fe Ski Basin.
These planned operations will likely result in increased air traffic, smoke and fire activity in these areas.

SANTA FE – New Mexico state health officials have announced this afternoon 98 additional positive tests for COVID-19.
Los Alamos County remains at 24 cases today that have tested positive for COVID-19.
Today’s update announces 2 additional deaths reported in New Mexico related to COVID-19.
The New Mexico Department of Health reported today the most recent cases:
- 17 new cases in Bernalillo County
- 8 new cases in Chaves County
- 3 new cases in Curry County
- 4 new cases in Doña Ana County
- 2 new cases in Eddy County
