Aquatomics Place 11 in Long Course Championship

AQUATOMICS News:

The Four Corners Aquatic Team and New Mexico Swimming hosted the New Mexico Long Course State Championships Swim Meet July 19-22, at the Farmington Aquatic Center in Farmington.

A total of 446 swimmers from 22 teams attended.

The Los Alamos Aquatomics had 23 swimmers attend the championship meet; several of whom scored points for the team by finishing in the top eight in their events:         

  • Jillian Bennett scored 2 points
  • Kaitlin Bennett scored 4 points
  • Max Corliss scored 5 points
  • Alana Goodwin scored 5 points
  • Nick Greenfield scored 5 points
  • Ian Jaegers scored 11 points

The Valles Caldera Deserves a Rim Trail

The Valles Caldera deserves a trail around its rim. At 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15 in Fuller Lodge, Historian Dorothy Hoard will tell of her 12-year still unfinished odyssey to make the dream a reality.

The resurgent dome of the Valles Caldera is, geologically speaking, very young. Its structure is largely intact. 

It is also a small caldera, a mere 13 to 15 miles in diameter, so it is easy the see its bowl-shape depression atop a mountain.

More than 75 Los Alamos Public Schools coaches met Sunday, Aug. 5 at Griffith Gym to hear presentations by County Transportation Director Keith Rosenbaum; Los Alamos High School Principal Sandra Warnock, Athletic Secretary Kim Smith, Athletic Director Vicki Nelms and Wade Salem from Character Matters who presented Professional Development to the coaches on the Character Matters program. Heron Lake Paddle Festival is Aug. 10-12

The Heron Lake Paddle Festival is set for Aug. 10, 11 and 12. Heron Lake State Park is 11 miles west of Tierra Amarilla via U.S. highways 64 and 84 and N.M. 95.

This three day event includes canoe and kayak clinics, demos and races among other activities such as a used gear sale.

The Paddle Festival site is in the Ridge Rock area of Heron Lake State Park - just west of the dam.

Heron Lake is a no-wake lake
