Toppers Thrash Tigers

UNM Lobo Hockey To Visit Los Alamos Saturday

The University of New Mexico Men’s Hockey team will invade the Los Alamos County Ice Rink at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13 for an inter-squad scrimmage.

The Lobos will travel back to Albuquerque after the scrimmage to host Dallas Baptist University in an 8 p.m. tilt. There is no cost to attend the scrimmage.

The Lobos are 12-1-1 on the season and ranked 8 in the country in Division-III hockey while averaging 6.5 goals a game.


Purgatory Gets 7 Inches Of Snow Since Midnight

Purgatory Resort in Durango, Colo. has received seven inches of snow since midnight and more is in the forecast today.
Nearly 40 percent of Purgatory's terrain is now open, with new trails on the backside of the mountain opening today, thanks to the new snow.
Purgatory has received a foot of snow in the past four days.

Once again, the hottest fishing spot for local anglers is the Chama River below El Vado Dam.
With streamflows measuring a measly 102 cubic-feet- per-second, the Chama has been excellent for anglers using everything from flies to Power Bait. The State Game and Fish Department has stocked a lot of rainbow trout in this area, including 495 trout stocked Jan. 3 that averaged over 11 inches in size.

Secretary Zinke Creates New Council For Hunting And Shooting Sports Conservation

WASHINGTON, D.C.  Continuing his unyielding support for hunting, fishing, and the American conservation ethic, U.S. Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke today announced the creation of the Hunting and Shooting Sports Conservation Council.
The Council is intended to provide the Secretary of the Interior and the Secretary of Agriculture with advice regarding the establishment and implementation of existing and proposed policies and authorities with regard to wildlife and habitat conservation.

Jemez Ranger District Begins Joaquin Prescribed Burn

SANTA FE – To take advantage of unseasonably favorable conditions, to include fuel moisture levels, air quality and weather forecasts, fire managers on the Jemez Ranger District of the Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) expect to begin ignitions on the Joaquin fuelwood unit Thursday, Jan. 11 to reduce the risk of high-severity wildfire.

Weather permitting, crews are expected to treat up to 90-acres of the 115-acre area.
