Readout Of Governor’s Call With New Mexico Delegation Members And Federal Partners On Wildfire Resources

Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham was joined on a call with federal officials today by Sen. Martin Heinrich, Sen. Ben Ray Luján and U.S. Rep. Teresa Leger Fernández.

On the call were leaders from the White House, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the U.S. Forest Service, the Department of Interior and the Federal Emergency Management Agency, as well as New Mexico State Forester Laura McCarthy and New Mexico Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management Deputy Secretary Kelly Hamilton.

Cerro Pelado Fire Grows To 4,688 Acres, Remains 0 Percent Contained, More People And Equipment Have Been Ordered

USDA News:

The Cerro Pelado Fire, 7 miles east of Jemez Springs started Friday, April 22 during an epic wind event. It has consumed 4,688 acres and remains zero percent contained.

Today firefighters are taking advantage of the good weather to make progress on the fire. They will continue to protect structures near the fire, including the Sierra de Los Pinos and Cochiti Mesa communities.

Helicopters also will fly reconnaissance missions today over the fire assessing behavior and dropping water. Firefighters will continue to construct hand line to protect the Sierra de Los Pinos community. Read More

UPDATE: CANCEL Brittany Alert – Los Alamos Police Department – James Archuleta has been located and is safe.

The Los Alamos Police Department (LAPD) is asking for the public’s assistance in locating James Archuleta.

Archuleta is described as a 57-year-old Caucasian male, 5’3” tall, weighing 130 pounds, with brown eyes and short gray hair. He was last seen wearing a dark blue sweater, brown khaki pants and is wearing a necklace with hearts.

The United State Department of Agriculture (USDA) released the following information this afternoon on the status of the Cerro Pelado Fire burning in the Jemez Mountains:

The Cerro Pelado Fire, 7 miles east of Jemez Springs, started Friday, April 22, during an epic wind event. The cause of the fire is under investigation. It is burning in ponderosa pine and mixed conifer trees and brush.
