Fr. Glenn: One People Under God

By Rev. Glenn Jones
Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church
Los Alamos

This last week we were treated to yet another example of the truth of scripture—that “there is nothing new under the sun.” (Ecclesiastes 1:9) The wall-to-wall coverage about the Charlottesville and subsequent protests and counter-protests reminded of the riots of the 60’s and 70’s. Sigh. Perhaps the birthing pains of eventually moving toward a more civilized society, we can only hope.

Predictably, there were myriad reactions over the Charlottesville protests and events. One wonders whether simply ignoring groups

Pastor Granillo: Confusing Laws

By PASTOR RAUL GRANILLO
La Vista Church

The power of the lawyer is in the uncertainty of the law. – Jeremy Bentham

Imagine a person from a country outside of America. This person began sharing why he believed America was not what it claimed. This person would say that, in America, it is illegal to sell a firearm to American citizens and references 18 U.S.C. 922(d)(1) as proof. Imagine this person also saying that according to 18 U.S.C. 922(g), American citizens are not even allowed to be in possession of firearms.

He goes on to say that even the states contradict

Letter To The Editor: Response To Mr. Nebel & Citizens

By GREG WHITE
Los Alamos

Yes Mr. Nebel, the free way to know the law is to READ the law for yourself as opposed to having a patronage politician like the AG read it for you (link). Which by the way the AG, a patronage politician (by your definition) does not testify in court and legally only issues guidance for state and local government bodies. I would welcome the county to request such an opinion from the patronage AG since the council, patronage politicians, refuse to believe their own attorney, a patronage position, and the AG’s already investigating my criminal complaints anyway.

Home Country: Comfort Of A Small Town

Home Country
By SLIM RANDLES

It was Thursday again. Mabel Adams asked at the desk to be sure.

“Thursday all day, Mabel,” the girl said. “Don’t forget to get your hair done today. Two o’clock … right?”

“Right,” Mabel said, locking the time away in her mind. “Two o’clock. On Thursday.” She took her purple walker and went half a block to the counter at the drug store. That nice Williams girl came over with a smile and a menu.

“Tuna on toast, Mrs. Adams?”

“Uh, sure. I like that.”

“Hot tea?”

“Yes please.”

After she ate, she started down the sidewalk toward

Letter To The Editor: Worry Over USA-DPRK Conflict

Dr. T. Douglas Reilly
Los Alamos

Much is reported regarding the war of words between the leaders of North Korea and the USA. Unfotunately, little is said about the history of North Korea; whose official name is the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK). North Korea is often called the Hermit Kingdom, because it is so closed to the outside world.

President Trump’s words feed directly into the policy and mind of Kim Jong Un. I don’t think continental USA is threatened by the North. However, South Korea (Republic of Korea (ROK)), Japan, and other islands
