I come from a very long line of shepherds who settled in the northern hills of El Rito and La Madera in the late 1500s. My mother’s generation of the Ortega and Gonzales families, who were in this line of business, was the last to live on that working farm up north.

When I was a kid, she and Grandma both shared lots of memories about those hard working days, their fun times at dances held at the SPMDTU, and the long periods of time (months) when the women were left alone to run the ranch

By SHELLY A. WIEMANN
Edward Jones Financial Advisor

If you participate in a pension plan at work, you might be offered a buyout at some point. This could happen if your employer wants to shrink its future pension obligations or if your company has been bought, and your new employer decides to terminate your existing pension plan.

  • Are you selling a product? What if a customer is injured by your product?
  • Are you providing a service? What if a customer is not happy with your work?

By Fr. Glenn Jones

Was scrolling through Facebook the other day and came across a post from one of my former parishioners announcing that yet another one of her young ones was learning to drive. Well, that darn ol’ teasing self came out and I couldn’t help but reply: “Okay, I’ll stay off the sidewalk.”

But, regardless of sarcasm, inside there truly WAS a tinge of surprise: “Is she old enough to drive … already?!”… for etched deep in cherished memory are the many times that “little one”—with brothers and sisters—virtually gang-tackled ol’ Fr. Glenn in group hug as they exited IHM on Sundays. Heavy sigh. Read More

Rio Grande Chapter Director
Sierra Club

You probably heard that PNM announced Monday that they will reach 100 percent carbon-free by 2040, five years earlier than ETA requires. This is very exciting news and moves us even faster toward protecting our planet.

PNM wasn’t specific about how they’ll get to 100 percdent and what technologies they’ll use to reach the goal. But they did say that they will be building 140MW of wind and that battery prices are falling fast. They also said they’d offer different scenarios and that “we”
