NMPGV: NRA, Corporate Gun Lobby Fuel Pandemic Fears

By Rev. Dr. Harry Eberts, Miranda Viscoli
Co-presidents
New Mexicans To Prevent Gun Violence

The NRA has taken their predictable and morally repugnant disregard for the safety of our communities to a whole new level by using the COVID-19 pandemic to fuel the sale of guns and ammunition.

Their latest video shows a woman in a wheelchair holding an AR-15 with a 30-round magazine and a red dot scope. She is both a survivor of cancer and domestic violence. She warns viewers, with an apocalyptic flair, of the impending violent societal collapse of our country and worries that the government will come Read More

Hampton: Governor Should Reopen Many Small Businesses

By DAVID HAMPTON
Republican Candidate
Dist. 43 State Representative

While I agree with some of Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham’s decisions regarding COVID-19, I do not agree with her decision to close our small businesses, which she deems non-essential.

Small businesses are arguably better at enforcing and complying with social distancing guidelines, and their closure drives people to the larger stores like Walmart and Lowes for the same products.

This makes social distancing even more difficult at the larger stores, and in some areas creates long lines to enter, especially since the 20 percent Read More

World Futures Institute: Modeling – Part One

By ANDY ANDREWS
Los Alamos World Futures Institute

In making decisions about what action to take we create models, mental or mathematical, to help make our decision.

The Cheshire Cat continues harassing us about knowing where we are going or it does not matter which road we take. If very few variables are involved and the quantities are small, it is easy. But as the numbers grow, disciplined modelling is appropriate.

Let us start by building a “silly” model for what most of us would consider a “silly” issue to investigate.

Assume the issue is time reporting for a company, institution, agency, or Read More

My neighbor just reported that my packages were mis-delivered to her house.

My packages came under the scrutiny of two women in a gray Jeep. They stopped to check out the package.

Luckily, my neighbor’s son was leaving, but didn’t leave so he could watch these women. When my neighbor arrived home, she pulled in behind them causing them to leave.

Let’s be good neighbors and watch out for thieves. Read More

The 2020 Census began in earnest April 1, Census Day.

New Mexico Dist. 43 Rep. Christine Chandler, whose district includes Los Alamos, is concerned that citizens may not be taking the census seriously enough.

“This only happens every 10 years,” Chandler said. “It’s a really big deal. There must be a push to get everyone counted.”

There are three main reasons the census is so important, Chandler said. The first is financial.

“Federal benefits are determined by the count of individuals ,” she said. Read More
