LACF News:

Animal Protection of New Mexico, Animal Protection Voters, the Pajarito Environmental Education Center, and the Los Alamos Community Foundation are teaming up to offer a Practical Legacy Planning Workshop 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Oct. 21 at the Nature Center. The workshop will be presented by Susan M. Morrison, JD, CFP®, APMA®

RSVP to elizabeth@apnm.org or 505.933.1123.

The workshop will offer an opportunity to discover answers to estate planning questions and to begin the process of writing your own last will and testament.

Issues to be discussed:
  • Who needs a will?
  • What property passes by will?
  • Should I have a trust or a will?
  • Can I write my own will?
  • What specific language does a will need to have?
  • What other related planning documents should I have?
  • Can I name my charity as the beneficiary of my IRA?
  • What other means are available for giving to my charities?
  • In addition to taking care of my family, it’s important for me to leave a legacy in my community; how do I leave a gift to my church or my “social profit” organizations in my will?
Susan M. Morrison started Q Financial Planning in 2010 following a career as a practicing attorney and after working as a financial planner for other companies. She also served as the director of planned giving for the University of New Mexico Foundation. Prior to working as an attorney, Morrison was a Medicaid caseworker. In each of these positions, Morrison has had the opportunity to work with seniors and has developed a deep understanding and appreciation of the issues, challenges, and opportunities that many seniors face.
