Los Alamos County Enters Stage I Fire Restrictions

LAFD News:

Los Alamos County Stage I Fire Restrictions After consulting with Los Alamos National Laboratory, and in cooperation with the Santa Fe National Forest, the Los Alamos Fire Department has announced that Los Alamos County will enter into Stage I Fire Restrictions, effective immediately.  
 
Under Stage I Fire Restrictions, the following acts are prohibited until further notice:

  • Building, maintaining, attending or using an open fire, campfire, charcoal or wood stove on all Los Alamos County lands. (See first exemption below for additional details.)

Purdue University Confirms LANL Bid With Bechtel

Purdue University on Friday confirmed it teamed with Bechtel National, Reston, Va., on a bid to run the Los Alamos National Laboratory — a teaming arrangement first reported by Weapons Complex Morning Briefing’s sister publication in February.

The confirmation came Friday from Mitch Daniels, president of Indiana-based Purdue University. Daniels spoke to the local Lafayette Journal and Courier newspaper on the sidelines of a meeting of the institution’s board of trustees.

Sink Malfunction At LANL Causes Stir With DNFSB

A Los Alamos National Laboratory spokesman told the Los Alamos Daily Post Friday that during the week of March 5, a few gallons of water overflowed from a sink in an administrative area of TA-55 with a small amount eventually settling in the basement rad storage area, which is specifically designed to isolate and contain water intrusions.

Film And Discussion Of J. Robert Oppenheimer April 22

The New Mexico Jewish Historical Society and the Los Alamos Jewish Center is sponsoring a screening and discussion of the PBS film, “The Trials of J. Robert Oppenheimer” at 2 p.m. April 22 at Fuller Lodge.

Refreshments will be served. There will be a suggested $10 donation that will go toward future New Mexico Jewish Historical Society’s programs.

The first part of the film covers Oppenheimer’s life through his leadership of Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory during World War II. Following the film there will be a discussion led by Rabbi Jack Shlachter. Read More
