‘Why I Am Pro Life’ Essay Opens For Local Students

LARTLC News:

Los Alamos Right to Life Committee, LARTLC, announces an essay contest for Los Alamos students in the Middle School and High School.

The essay title is “Why I Am Pro Life.” By submitting the essay, the contestant and parent agree to allow LARTLC to reprint the essay and that the essay is original, but not copyrighted. Essays will be more than 600 words and will be read and judged on originality, content and accuracy.

Los Alamos High School will host a meet and greet 4:30-6 p.m. today with incoming Principal Dr. Debbie Belew-Nyquist for students and parents in the lobby of the high school.

Dr. Belew-Nyquist, who officially begins her duties July 1, will be in Los Alamos through Wednesday. She will meet with staff and students several times during these days and with the Board of Education Tuesday evening.

View Rare Glimpse of Antarctica Through National Geographic Lens 7 p.m. Thursday at PEEC

It was the trip of a lifetime. Last November, Los Alamos local Stephen Becker embarked on the National Geographic Explorer ship to the Falkland Islands, South Georgia Island, and Antarctica.

Nature Center Groundbreaking Ceremony 4 p.m. April 22

The Los Alamos County Council will host a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Nature Center at 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 22 at the project site, 2600 Canyon Road, north of the Aquatic Center.

AAUW Hosts Equal Pay Day Event at Farmer’s Market Today

The longtime Los Alamos Public Schools electrician under investigation surrounding theft allegations last month is back at work.

Wayne Montoya, a technician IV–electrician working out of the Pajarito Cliffs site, told the Los Alamos Daily Post March 7 that the investigation would clear him of any wrongdoing.

Interior Construction Begins at Aspen School

A load of dry wall for interior walls arrives at Aspen Elementary School, 2182 33rd St., which is undergoing major remodeling. The project is expected to be complete in January 2015. For the rest of this school year and continuing into next fall, all classes are being housed in portables next to the construction site. Construction plans call for the new school to be completed in two phases. The first phase renovates a new foyer and remodels the administrative wing.
